WHAT IS LARONG PINOY?

• Filipino traditional games played since the 1980s and 1990s,


but sadly, due to modern technology, most young people
today are unable to play some of them and most of it had
been long forgotten. The word “laro” in Filipino refers to any
type of recreational activity.
WHY PRESERVE AND PROMOTE INDIGENOUS GAMES?

TUMBANG PRESO
A game where you knock down a can
using a slipper and then avoid being
tagged by the “taya” while trying to
retrieve the object.
How many players?
3 or more players. One player is
designated as “taya” or the “guard”and
the rest are the attackers.

LUKSONG TINIK
MECHANICS
• The game involves players
sitting on the ground and
other players jumping over
parts of their body.
Basically, you just jump
over people's feet which is
meant to be the tinik,
which one foot/hand of the
two players sitting on the
ground will be added after
all players have jumped
the first round.
PATINTERO
MECHANICS
• The game is to cross the
rectangle back and forth without
getting tagged. One tagger is
usually assigned per crosswise
line. Taggers can only move along
their respective lines, with the
exception of the tagger on the
first line who is regarded as the
team leader
LUKSONG BAKA

It is a traditional Filipino game that


originated in Bulacan. It involves a minimum
of three players and a maximum of 10
players and involves them jumping over the
person called the baka or “cow”. The main
goal of the players is to successfully jump
over the baka without touching or falling
over the baka.
Players jump over a crouching player who
gradually raises in height.`
LUKSONG LUBID
Luksong-Lubid or Jumping rope
is a common game played by
children on the streets and
open spaces.
Benefits
It provides cardiovascular
exercise, it helps develop
relationships between players.
It’s a fun childhood activity.
TAGU-TAGUAN
It is a traditional Filipino game that
is similar to hide-and-seek. It is best
played at night, especially during full
moon.
How to play Tagu-taguan?
1.Players run to hide
2. The “taya” chooses a corner or
post and faces it
3. The “taya” closes their eyes and
chants “Tagu-taguan, maliwanag ang
buwan”
4.The “taya” counts to ten while
looking for the hidden players
5. The “taya” shouts “Huli ka!” when
they find a hidden player
JACKSTONE A game played by tossing and catching
small round pebbles or star-shaped
pieces of metal or plastic.
Jackstone is a game played with at
least two people using five jacks. Each
stone is about the size of an almond.
Players must only use one hand to
play.
HOLEN Holen, also known as “jolen”, is a Filipino
game played with marbles. It’s a one-on-
one game where players take turns trying
to knock their opponent’s marbles out of a
circle.
It is played in a more precise way by
tucking the marble with the player’s
middle finger, with the thumb under the
marble, and the fourth finger used to
stabilize the marble.
SUNGKA Sungka is a two-player board
game where players take turns
moving stones to capture the
most.

It’s a type of mancala game


that originated in the
Philippines.
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF TRADITIONAL
PHILIPPINE GAMES IN THE PHILIPPINES?

• Traditional Filipino games like Piko, Sipa, and Patintero are


more than just pastimes. They're a vital part of preserving
Filipino heritage and instilling values like teamwork and
