Graphs

Graphs visually display data, making it easier to identify trends compared to numerical tables. To create a graph, one must identify independent and dependent variables, choose the appropriate graph type, label axes, and add a descriptive caption. Quizzes included in the document test understanding of independent and dependent variables and their roles in experiments.

Graphs

Graphing Data

- Graphs are used to display data because it is

easier to see trends in the data when it is
displayed visually compared to when it is
displayed numerically in a table.

- In a graph, the X-axis runs horizontally (side to

side) and the Y-axis runs vertically (up and
down). Typically, the independent variable will be
How to make Graph

1. Identify your independent and dependent variables.

2. Choose the correct type of graph by determining whether each
variable is continuous or not.
3. Determine the values that are going to go on the X and Y axis. If
the values are continuous, they need to be evenly spaced based
on the value.
4. Label the X and Y axis, including units.
5. Graph your data.
6. Add a descriptive caption to your graph. Note that data tables are

True False

Independent variable is the variable that is manipulated or changed in and

experiment, and is expected to have an effect on the dependent variable.

3. If I add more milk, the tea will get a lighter color. The
two variables : 1. Amount of milk 2. Color of the
tea
Which one is the independent variable?

A amount of milk B color of

variables : 1. Amount of milk 2. Color of the tea
Which one is the independent variable?

A amount of milk B color of the tea

C both A and B D none of these

The independent variable in this scenario is the amount of milk.

The color of the tea is dependent variable as it is influenced by amount of milk
added.

dependent variable?

A amount of sugar B level of sweetness

C both A and B D none of these

Dependent variable is level of sweetness. Amount of sugar is

independent variable which is manipulated to determine its effect on
sweetness.
