Japan
• The USA wanted Stalin to join the
war in Japan after Germany was defeated, this was important since the USA foresaw the invasion of Japan. • In exchange the soviets were pledged territory in Asia (including Sakhalin island and the kuril islands) Establish a united nations • Roosevelt was an advocate to create the united nations to maintain peace and security. • Roosevelt wanted Stalin’s agreement to participate in this new international organization as the Soviet union could offer stronger global support. Determinate future of Poland and eastern europe • Roosevelt aimed to promote free elections and democratic governments in eastern and central Europe. Particularly in Poland since he believed every nation should have the right to vote freely. • However, he also had to consider the Soviet union’s security concerns and influence in the region. Preventing future global conflicts • He believed if he got allied with Britain, the U.S and the soviet union that they would be able to keep peace and avoid future conflicts. • He believed strong cooperation would be able to maintain stability.
