Media of Pakistan its

growth and
development over years

PRESENTATION BY:
AZMAT ULLAH
SEMESTER 2ND
SECTION A.
What is Media?

•Media refers to ways of sharing information with

the public—like newspapers, TV, radio, and social
media.
•In Pakistan, media plays a big role in informing
people, shaping opinions, and holding leaders
accountable.
Early Days of Media (1947–1980s)

•At the time of independence in 1947, Pakistan had

very limited media.
•The government controlled most media, especially
radio and newspapers.
•Radio Pakistan was the main source of news and
information.
Expansion through Television
(1960s–1980s)

•Pakistan Television (PTV) started in 1964.

•For many years, PTV was the only TV channel, fully
controlled by the government.
•News was carefully managed, with limited freedom
for journalists.
Media Liberalization (2000s Onward)

•In the early 2000s, the government allowed private

TV channels and FM radio stations.
•Channels like Geo News, ARY, and Dunya emerged,
giving people access to more information.
•This was a major turning point for media freedom
and growth.
Rise of Digital and Social Media

•With mobile phones and internet access, social

media like Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter became
popular.
•People now get news quickly and can share their
opinions instantly.
•Many young people prefer digital platforms over
newspapers or TV.
Challenges Faced by Media

•Despite growth, media in Pakistan faces

issues:

• pressure from powerful groups.

• Fake news and lack of fact-checking.
• Safety concerns for journalists.
Impact of Media on Society

•Media has created more awareness about rights,

politics, and social issues.
•It has helped in exposing corruption and giving a
voice to ordinary people.
•However, it also needs responsibility to avoid
spreading false or harmful content.
Conclusion

•Media in Pakistan has come a long way—from one

radio station to hundreds of TV channels and digital
platforms.
•It continues to grow, but it must balance freedom with
responsibility.
