PERSONAL RESPONSE APPROACH

 A teaching method that encourages students to share


their opinions and reactions to a text. It's a literary
criticism approach that helps students connect their
experiences and background knowledge to the text.
How does it work?
 Students analyze, interpret, and connect the text to
their own experience.
 Students may also discuss themes, messages, or
author bias.
 Students may apply what they've read to other
situations or the world around them.
 Students may reflect on their own reading strategies,
inferences and predictions.
STAGES IN PERSONAL-RESPONSE APPROACH

 Lead-in - to generate students interest in the


literary text.

 Reading (optional) - to give students an


opportunity to read the literary work
in case they have not done this
before coming to the class.
 Personalization
- to help students personalize the
themes of the literary text.

 Responding Stage
- to provide students with an
opportunity to respond the literary text.
 Speaking
- to encourage students to express
feelings towards the issues of the text.
