Adding a new AfD discussion

Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:

Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Sports|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.

There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.

Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.

You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Sports. Here is my problem with these stand-alone articles. All four disciplines are often not contested. There are often not enough competitors to award a bronze medal, and in some cases, even a silver medal. Many of these competitions featured no more than two or three participants. And most of the competitors who are listed are redlinked or unlinked (ie. themselves not notable). The competition results and scores are included (or should be included) on a skaters' individual article. The medal results are included on the parent article (in this case, Finnish Figure Skating Championships). Merge (highly selectively) into Jewish Community Center. I do not see it mentioned at the target so the proposed redirect is not really an option. Jimmy Skinner (American football)

Does not pass WP:GNG. The sources listed in the article do not provide WP:SIGCOV. I did find another source from the Chillicothe Gazette not listed in the article. Comment there are several WP:SIGCOV about him in the Chillicothe Gazette, [2][3][4][5](P1/P2). He would however need SIGCOV from at least one other publication to pass WP:GNG. He was the starting QB for Marshall so there might be some coverage in a publication that covers the school if someone knows where to look. Alvaldi (talk) 21:12, 2 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
That would be the Herald-Dispatch, presumably, which will certainly have print coverage of Skinner from 2005 and 2006, but the earliest mentions online seem to be from 2008. I didn't remember Skinner, but since we know that his career was covered by the Herald-Dispatch (and likely other news sources no longer available over the internet), then he seems to pass the general notability guideline. I note that the question is whether the sources exist, not whether they are available over the internet, or cited in the article. And anyone who started as quarterback in any Marshall games will be discussed, not merely mentioned, in the Herald-Dispatch. So this would be a keep. Buccaneers–Eagles rivalry

Non-notable rivalry of two teams that have only played each other 24 times since 1977. Frankly I've never heard of this even being called a rivalry between these two teams. Delete. Fails GNG in terms of establishing a rivalry exists. The article clings to a CBS blog that lists this series among the top rivalries of the 2000s. While CBS is certainly a top authority on NFL coverage, this particular blog has only a couple paragraphs of content on this series and does little to describe the teams as “rivals” outside of the title. Even if this was significant coverage of the teams as rivals, which it is not, GNG would still not be met as it requires multiple sources. Frank Anchor 17:10, 2 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Delete per nom. Just a random pairing of two NFL teams with no memorable games that I can recall (nor listed in the article) to spark a rivalry. @Clarityfiend: There are certainly some questionable rivalry articles. With that said, you'd be unlikely to see a rivalry article between two division opponents deleted. There does actually seem to be some coverage of this, e.g. 'A lot of history' between Bucs and Eagles ("Not too long ago, the Eagles-Buccaneers rivalry was one of the fiercest non-divisional matchups in the NFL"), Tampa Bay looks back to when the rivalry was real, Bucs, Eagles know each other well: Rivalry forms as they've met six times since 1999, Eagles, Buccaneers renew rivalry at new stadium, Tampa Vs. I think my issue is that this is largely predicated on meeting in the playoffs for 3 straight years. That doesn't create a long term rivalry in my opinion, more of a flash in the pan of a rivalry instead. My perspective is that rivalry articles should be more long standing, instead of relying on what amounts primarily to a 3-season stretch that most people have forgotten about. Looking at these sources, source 1 appears to be from a SI fan site, #2 is from one of the teams (so not independent), #3 uses language like "used to be a rivalry" (so not anymore), and "will become a rivalry again" (so not right now), #4 is fine but quite local and #5 is similar but places even less of an emphasis of this being a real rivalry. I think a select merge regarding this rivalry at List of NFL rivalries#Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Philadelphia Eagles using some of the sources from Beanie and moving it to the historical rivalries of that article is the best outcome as the WP:NRIVALRY isn't met here as a standalone article with a lack of sustained coverage from non-local outlets. Weak keep if renamed List of NFL quarterbacks who have beaten every team in the league and trimmed. (Also remove the criterion "beaten every team he faced at least once", which is just made up.) It satisfies NLIST, but only for every team, not every team but n (n=1, 2, 3, etc.). This is a rare achievement which requires a QB to go to another team and then beat his former team. Where are the sources that support this addition? I don't see any. (The closest I can find is that Mahomes is the youngest to beat all 31 other teams, and that's a different kettle of fish.) Trim and merge to List of NFL individual records#Quarterback wins. Specifically, I would add a bullet for those retired QBs who have beaten all but one team if they spent their entire career with one team. Kerry Collins is listed in three of the sources above though. Here is an excerpt: "Oddly, one other quarterback, Kerry Collins, beat 31 teams, but the team Collins never beat, the Dolphins, wasn’t one of the teams he played for. I frankly don't think "Quarterback beat all teams but three" (or four) merits mention in an encyclopedia at all. I would merge everything above two into quarterback records. However, given the size of List of NFL individual records, and the key role played by quarterbacks in the game, I would split out a separate List of NFL quarterback records. Comment Amongst the differing views for this AfD, I see the rationale for deletion and keep being solid. However, that happens with WP:TRIVIA. This is trivia that may or may not cross the GNG threshold. I do not think the merge target really works since the record for Most NFL teams defeated at least once, career is already there, but at the same time deleting for the sake of cruft or lack of GNG may work. That being said, perhaps a no consensus may be what is determined. I would rather this article be trimmed, and written to fit some other obscure stats that probably have GNG. Keep as both do have WP:SIGCOV from a number of international sources for them. They also fulfil WP:GNG therefore should not be deleted. Furthermore the rationales for the other seasons being deleted are not relevant to these two as 2024's ruling was on the grounds of no RS's (which the two here have loads of) and 2023's was on the grounds of a lack of SIGCOV (which both here have several demonstratively) and for being poorly source (see above for why that's not relevant here as both are well sourced). Comment the length of career cannot be relied upon to provide an indication of the notability of the career of a sportsperson. This has been discussed a number of times, both in relation to cricket and other sports, and formed at least some of the discussion around the revision to NSPORTS a couple of years ago. A variety of quantifiable limits were proposed at various times and non were deemed to be acceptable. Balmain's notability rests with whether to not he is notable, nothing else.

In this case, there is clearly some notability and some sources exist which tell us things about him. I suspect that there are more – I'm not certain where McCarron has found him to be a soldier from, but that would indicate that other sources can be presumed to exist. Are those sources enough to show notability? Not sure – there are other passing references to him in PapersPast, including some nice little quotes, but the limited amount of time he appears to have spent in New Zealand means that there aren't many. Fwiw, I declined the initial PROD, partly because I wasn't awfully happy that the nomination had been made seriously, partly because I wasn't sure that a search of PapersPast had taken place, and partly because I wanted to work on List of Nelson representative cricketers, which now exists. That provides an obvious ATD, allowing the article to be redirected to there if it's considered not to be notable. Much of the prose content of the article could be the basis for a note applied to Balmain' list entry, rather like the notes added at List of Otago representative cricketers, for example. The only decent source that I can find is Allez Les Lions, which is a fairly standard transfer announcement regarding her move to the second French tier. I am not sure if Allez Les Lions is WP:RS as I couldn't find evidence of fact checking or professional journalism. Aside from that, I found Feca Foot, Chretiens and La Depeche, all of which are clearly trivial mentions. Since all we have is one borderline source, I can't see how this meets the notability criteria. Turkish Wikipedia had no decent coverage. Morning, there is coverage for sure. Technicaly there are plenty news about this league on websites, social media platforms. I just did a google search and I personally found a lot of them. Matches of this U19 league are regulary on Moldovan TV named - We Sport. Also they are available on youtube platform. I personally didnt add a lot of this secondary sources just because this was not my goal. The primary source was able to cover the league table and results of each season. However moldovan FA edited their website and unfortunately all the primary source until the season 2021–22 Moldovan Under-19 Division has gone.

The Moldovan FA would not be an independent source, since they organize the Moldovan Youth League. Notice how the Irish article you provided is sourced to publications such as The Irish Times, the Irish Examiner, the Connacht Tribune, the Irish Independent, RTÉ.ie, the Evening Echo and The Mayo News. KEEP, but merge with corrections — this article seems like a duplication of the already-existing Reo Nakamura (footballer, born 1990) and hence a merge into the existing article may be more appropriate, once the errors have been corrected. It seems like the author of the article has made a spelling error, instead of “Reo” (the correct first name) they have put “Ryo” as the name of the subject and (for some reason) changed their DoB from 1990 to 1989.

The article's own source shows the name of the subject as “Reo”, not “Ryo” (as the author has put) and the correct DoB of the subject as 1990, not 1989 (as the author has put). The reason the others (CC: @GiantSnowman, @CommunityNotesContributor, @QEnigma) could not verify/find sources was because the author wrote the incorrect information on the Wikipedia article. The career statistics section, especially, I feel could be merged into the already existing article.

Comment - there are enough secondary-party sources involved, from The Daily Evergreen, The Spokesman-Review, and Lewiston Morning Tribune. [23][24][25][26] Whether that's enough sigcov in combination per WP:BASIC is another story, but certainly no need for third-party sources here per GNG. There is otherwise coverage beyond WP:ROUTINE, so per WP:SPORTBASIC it's likely there are enough sources for notability, even if not a guarantee. The Spokesman-Review and Lewiston Morning Tribune articles are brief, routine blurbs about her signing lightly refactored (as in, would absolutely fail our close-paraphrasing rules) from the same press release, and additionally are far from the SPORTSCRIT #5 requirement, let alone the SUSTAINED SIGCOV in multiple IRS sources required by GNG. Possible keep. His Eurohockey profile indicates he played 25 years professionally. Surely there are sources in foreign languages? For example: Polish Wikipedia, Russian Wikipedia, Ukrainian Wikipedia Searching in Russian for hockey-related articles is a bit difficult due to the businessman Alexander Medvedev's involvement in hockey. Alexander Medvedev (ice hockey) also coached the U18 national team for Iceland. Did anyone search in a foreign language? It's rather frustrating that nobody has mentioned what was searched. Hi there. The article's sources demonstrate that Hagen is both a provincial and territorial-level director and coach (currently for the province of Saskatchewan, previously for the Northwest Territories), and an official commentator for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation during the past two Olympic Games. Canada is a federal country and Hagen's roles in Saskatchewan and the NWTs are as the chief administrator of those federal units on behalf of Judo Canada, the national regulator. Accordingly, while Hagen's own sporting career does not make him notable, I think that he meets the administrative / coaching notability requirements for sport (director and head coach of two provincial or territorial programs), and he also has a public profile as the national broadcaster's (only) official judo commentator for the Olympics. Has a public profile as a commentator is not a criterion for notability, and there is no SNG under NSPORT either for for martial arts coaches or for provincial-level team coaches, so he will need to pass WP:GNG, which requires significant coverage in multiple independent, reliable, secondary sources. Delete My search found no evidence of him competing at a world or continental judo championship. I also didn't find significant independent coverage of him that would meet WP:GNG. This response looks like it was written by ChatGPT. Per WP:SOAPBOX, Wikipedia's job is not to showcase, highlight or celebrate anything. We should only have articles on topics that are already covered in reliable sources outside of Wikipedia. Where is your example of multiple reliable sources discussing these Canadian tennis players as a group? All I can see is a synthesis of different news articles, created by you, on different Grand Slam wins by different Canadian players but not a single source linking them together. It seems to me that all (or at least a vast majority) of this user's edits are AI written. They have already been warned of this once on their user page.
