The system originally had 36 letters; eventually, three more were adopted. The alphabet was also in wide use in the Ottoman Empire around the ꯱꯸ꯁꯨꯕ ꯑꯃꯁꯨꯡ ꯱꯹ꯁꯨꯕ ꯆꯩꯍꯤ ꯆꯥ ꯫
