[S] Show account creation prompt from Profile entry point
Open, LowPublic

Description

Background

The Apps team plans to explore if a personalized Wikipedia in Review feature that displays insights about a user's reading history, editing history, and donation history is engaging for App users, and inspires them to make a donation to the Wikimedia Foundation. We also want to see if we can motivate more users to create accounts, to access more features within the apps, and increase their engagement with the movement.

Requirements
  • Display log-in / create an account prompt on top of profile menu anytime a logged-out user clicks the "Year in Review" entry point from the Profile menu
  • "No thanks" closes the modal, and returns them to the profile menu
  • "Log in/Join Wikipedia" leads to log-in screen
  • After they have logged-in, they can now access Year in Review from the profile menu point. If they are eligible for personalized slides, those are shown

Nice-to-have

  • After they have successfully logged in, land them on the introduction screen of Year in Review,
Designs

Same to this prompt design, but with modified copy:

  • Log in for access to Year in Review
  • Log in or create an account to see Year in Review again and be eligible for more personalized insights.

Hi @SNowick_WMF @HNordeenWMF,

For Year in Review V2, we have a new login / create account prompt that is showing before the user enters the Year in Review flow. Do you want us to reuse the events from https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1uAiqSlb_vpJsW2KJSM2X38JCDflRTOI2b57ygtad45I/edit#slide=id.g30986b3155d_0_289, or should we log new ones? That link is another prompt that appears after the user completes the Year in Review flow, which will also exist in V2.

Hi @Tsevener - we can re-use the same action values but since it's a different slide can we use a different value for action_data = slide:, so we can differentiate the origin of the new account creation. We can use slide: yir_start_account_engage. I don't see the new prompt design in Figma so I made a generic slide for this in instrumentation deck.

This task says that an account prompt comes up when user enters from settings/profile, so if it's different we will also want to make a separate slide/same actions where action_data = slide: entry_b_profile for that.

This is working as expected, except that the Editing Views slide does not update upon logging in (noted and will be addressed on this task: https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T376353)

After creating an account from this prompt, I am shown the menu screen again still in the logged-out state.

Steps:

  • Open Year in Review from profile menu while logged-out
  • Create an account
  • Observe logged-out Menu state after logging in

Expected behavior

  • I am taken to Logged-in menu state, or Year in Review feature opens

Fixed! Created a new account & was taken directly to my Year in Review!
