The Transformers cartoon
The Thirteenth Legion of Autobots, fleeing the wars of Cybertron, travelled to Antilla where they founded a thriving colony. Their refuge would prove to be short-lived as the colony fell victim to the malignant Cosmic Rust. With no cure to be found, the last to die recorded a rhythmic message to warn other Cybertronians of the disease and to stay away from Antilla.
In 1985, Antilla was rediscovered by the Decepticons, who claimed the colony's Lightning Bug weapon, only to wind up infected with Cosmic Rust. Cosmic Rust

Some ten million years ago, Antilla was a peaceful planet that orbited a star near the galactic center, home to the Antillan species. Following the unification of the Thirteen on Cybertron, their leader Prima—acting on the suggestion of "Onyx Prime"—proposed an interstellar colonization mission, aimed at spreading the "light" of Cybertronian civilization to other worlds. "Onyx Prime" and Megatronus spearheaded this particular mission aboard the Titan Nemesis, supported by Omega Supreme and his Omega Sentinels. The First Who Was Named Our Finest
The genocidal intentions of the Transformers made clear, "first contact" between the Cybertronians and Antillans quickly escalated into a full-scale war between the two species, and though the Antillans fought back, they were unable to match the power of the Cybertronians. As their world faced extinction, a desperate scientist sought to end the war by constructing a doomsday weapon that would end all life on the stricken planet. When activated, the weapon did its job, and more—the star Antilla orbited collapsed into a massive black hole, while the planet itself was reduced to a barren wasteland of rust, the ultimate weapon against the Cybertronian race: Unicron. Whatever remained was warped beyond recognition through the corrupted magic of the Talisman, forming the first generation of Dire Wraiths, who quickly fled the stricken world to colonize the faraway Dark Nebula. Stranger Eons Our Finest
Following the First Cybertronian Civil War, Onyx Prime and his Maximal army returned to Antilla and made camp there, excavating the heart of the weapon and naming it the "Talisman." Our Finest Some 600,000 years ago, Shockwave's younger self would seed the planet with samples of Ore-7 as part of his Regenesis project, unaware of the presence of "Onyx Prime" nor the historical significance of his seemingly-random choice of planet. Another servant of Onyx's —the Cybertronian sleeper agent Garrison Blackrock—remembered a "childhood visit" from a "black angel", who showed him a world of rust and infinite darkness. Lagrange
At some point before Caminus faced its energy crisis, the colony detected a distress beacon emanating from the planet and sent a trio of representatives —the linguist Magrada, the Matriarch of Incaendium and the Torchbearer Praesidia—to make contact. When they arrived, they discovered an unnatural mountain, which split open to reveal Onyx, who leapt down from his perch and beheaded Magrada, sending the other two fleeing. Ghost Stories Surfeit of Primes
Onyx and his Maximals eventually followed them to Caminus and attacked Parvus Oppidum, and Torchbearer Pyra began experiencing nightmares of Onyx Prime on Antilla. The Mistress of Flame explained her and Praesidia's earlier voyage to Antilla, while regretting that her old friend had perished with such sorrow on her mind. Ghost Stories
Centuries later, Unicron awoke and began his assault on Cybertron's colonies, prompting Arcee, who had participated in the original war for the planet, and Shockwave, his role as "Onyx Prime" unmasked, to reveal the Chaos Bringer's connection to the initial Antillan war. Our Finest
When Optimus plunged into infraspace through Unicron's black hole, the realm presented itself to the Autobot leader as the blasted ruins of post-invasion Antilla. Ceremony
Notes
- According to episode writer Paul Davids, the word Antilla comes from "the 'Antilles'—always thought of as the inaccessible 'hinterland' in the days of the explorers".[2] The Antilles are actually a series of islands in the Caribbean Sea, but their name in turn derives from the phantom island of Antillia that was supposedly located in the Atlantic Ocean far west of Spain.
- It was Davids's intent to portray Antilla as an "Autobot Atlantis", a "super-civilization that met its end". Outside of their Lightning Bug weapon, the society's relative advancement does not particularly come across in the episode.
- The dialogue script for "Cosmic Rust" included additional information on the timing of the colony's founding. Two cut lines between Megatron and Starscream regarding an ancient Autobot inscription reveal the following:
- "It says that the Thirteenth Legion of Autobots arrived here the first millennium after the creation of the Autobot Matrix."
- "Which would make it about five hundred thousand years before we left for Earth."[3]
- However, this does not line-up with the history of the Matrix that would later be revealed in "Five Faces of Darkness, Part 4," which showed that the Matrix had existed for millions of years before the departure of the Ark and Nemesis from Cybertron.
