The Companions are a subgroup from the 2019 IDW portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.

Possessing a deep sense of loyalty to Pyra Magna, her faithful and battle-tested Companions always stand ready to come to the Great General's aid whenever she asks. Having served under her during the War of the Threefold Spark, many of them objected to Pyra's subsequent imprisonment after the conflict had ended. As a form of protest, some Companions have even taken on Pyra Magna's distinct color scheme.

Pyra Magna was imprisoned after the War of the Threefold Spark had ended for ignoring the amnesty granted to Turmoil, hunting him down and accidentally destroying his ship along with everyone aboard it. We Are Not Meant To Be Darkness In response, some members of her faithful crew took on her color scheme to remind others of what they saw as Pyra's unjust sentence. After the rise of the Decepticons, Optimus Prime ordered Pyra Magna released from her imprisonment in the White Tower, intending to enlist her against this new menace. Once awakened from stasis and outside for the first time in kilocycles, Pyra called out to Jumpstream, who immediately teleported to her general's side. Pyra ordered Jumpstream to locate and gather as many of the Companions as she could, and the teleporter eagerly set to the task. Awakenings

When Optimus Prime and Megatron agreed to parlay via holographic conference, Pyra Magna was selected as Prime's in-person representative, with Strika serving as Megatron's. Pyra had her Companions hiding nearby under a shimmer field in case of treachery and sure enough, Cyclonus arrived with the intent to assassinate her. The Companions sprung into action against the Decepticons that Strika had deployed to back Cyclonus up, easily trouncing them and forcing a retreat. Pyra willingly offered her neck to Cyclonus after realizing he had due cause to want her dead, but he faltered and Pyra ordered the Companions to leave him alone. When asked, Pyra Magna told her followers that they would be fully putting their support behind Optimus Prime against Megatron for the time being. We Are Not Meant To Be Darkness

Optimus next had Pyra and her Companions aid in evacuating the besieged city of Protihex, save Jumpstream, who volunteered for an experiment proposed by Perceptor to boost her teleportation abilities. Test Flight I When Termagax was located out by the Sea of Rust, the Companions were deployed alongside Novastar's strike team aboard Sky Lynx to secure the area and exterminate the Insecticon clone swarm attacking Termagax's home. After Optimus Prime arrived, he and Pyra Magna went to chat with Termagax, and Pyra had Sunstreaker carry out her plan to defend the position. When the Decepticon Guard arrived in force to seize the Enigma of Combination from Termagax and attacked, the Rainmakers were taken out by the snipers Sunstreaker had strategically stationed above, with Windcharger disabling the nigh-invulnerable Nova Storm. The Decepticons surged forward and the Companions retaliated with the other Autobots. Sea of Rust II The battle ended after the Enigma was apparently lost to the Sea of Rust. Enigmatic

The Companions stood at the ready to fight when the Decepticons attacked Crystal City. A Dust of Crystals The Companions aided Optimus Prime in forcing a ceasefire with the Decepticons and after Pyra Magna received an SOS from a team sent to the Sonic Canyons to investigate the return of Exarchon, accompanied her there. They passed over the Sea of Rust on the way to the Canyons, and Pyra Magna told Jumpstream to stay behind to prevent a potential future where she died fighting Exarchon. Jumpstream acquiesced, while the Companions arrived to find a team of Decepticons led by Sixshot fighting Exarchon and his forces. War's End Part Two The Companions joined forces with the Decepticons to face their mutual enemy, but Jumpstream soon teleported in to warn that Devastator was approaching. The allied forces pulled back and Pyra Magna and Sixshot deliberated over a strategy to combat Exarchon's loyalists. While tensions rode high between the Companions and the Decepticons, they ultimately agreed to work together. War's End Part Three After a new plan was hatched to seal Exarchon's spark within a booby-trapped cage that contained a Titanspark, a combined assault on Exarchon's bunker was launched. The Companions and Decepticons succeeded in trapping Exarchon, and after his remaining loyalists were taken prisoner, Pyra Magna finally destroyed the Threefold Spark's captured essence once and for all. The Decepticons soon left, leaving the Companions to sweep Exarchon's base for their remaining allies. War's End Part Four

The Companions were retrieved by Sky Lynx and brought to a standoff between Optimus Prime and Megatron. Pyra Magna had Jumpstream remove the imploder that Skywarp had been using to hold the Autobots hostage by teleporting it into unspace. The Companions fought in the battle at Darkmount, ultimately leaving Cybertron behind aboard the Ark. Jumpstream managed to catch up with her comrades and teleport aboard just as the Autobots arrived at their new home, the Winged Moon. Fate of Cybertron
