Cosmos (G1)

The name or term "Cosmos" refers to more than one character or idea. For a list of other meanings, see Cosmos (disambiguation).
Cosmos is an Autobot from the Generation 1 continuity family.

Fast and intelligent, bored and lonely, Cosmos has reason to regret his abilities, which often separate him from his Autobot friends. Alas, his skills are far too extraordinary to ignore.

Few of his faction can achieve escape velocity and enter planetary orbit unaided, as he can, from planets as big as Earth or slightly larger. He carries fuel reserves sufficient for short orbital journeys; he is quite able to land on Earth's Moon, then take off and return to Earth. Cosmos enjoys such diversions immensely. Generally, however, he remains in orbit, relaying messages, observing enemy installations, and watching for Decepticon activity in nearby space. His optical sensors are able to observe a human radio host standing outside in the high desert from 600 miles up.

As a living Transformer, his advantage over a simple satellite is great, but it is a boring life for Cosmos. Sometimes he shows off his piloting skills by zigzagging through meteor showers on a clear night, but more often he'll break the monotony by drifting silently behind the cars of lone drivers with his running lights on, hovering eerily above the backyards of Earth citizens, or jamming TV transmissions with reruns of The Outer Limits. Naturally, this causes some consternation to the poor humans he is supposed to defend, but it's all in good fun. Primus save us from bored techies.

This is terrible!

Space. The final frontier. These are the voyages of Cosmos, Autobot deep-space reconnaissance officer. His continuing mission—to observe Decepticon activities. To provide intelligence to the Autobots in their never ending war. To boldly crash where no other Autobot has crashed before!

Our hero began his adventures with a bang, appearing out of nowhere to blindly lead the Autobot spacecraft straight into the sun. If not for the impetuous Cliffjumper trying to change their course and realizing the controls were locked, Cosmos would have had the greatest crash of all. Still, he did his best to save his fellow Autobots in the end, as his deep space armor allowed Cosmos to come inside the ship and continue poking vainly at the control panel long after the others collapsed from their circuits overheating. Trailbreaker's force field eventually saved the Autobots, and they managed to vacate the crumbling ship inside a massive force sphere, tethered to Cosmos to bring them back to Earth. Cosmos's knack for crashing almost did them in anyhow, though — the same reprogrammed guidance directives that were controlling their ship were now being beamed by Teletraan I to Cosmos himself, forcing him to lead the force sphere back on a course into the sun. Only the freak chance of the Decepticon Thrust visiting the Ark and blowing up Teletraan I on a whim saved the Autobots, and allowed Cosmos to begin towing them back to Earth. Even though time was of the essence, we can only assume Cosmos didn't crash-land upon re-entry. Megatron's Master Plan, Part 2

I choose Bachelor #2!

When next seen, Cosmos was patrolling the spaceways for Decepticon activity with Blaster (probably as a punishment for actually liking Blaster's taste in music) when they came across a lunar base being run by Megatron and Astrotrain. Against logic and precedent, Cosmos actually managed to make a perfect two point landing on a hillside near the base to eavesdrop. Enraged at Cosmos for defying all expectations and NOT crashing (not to mention the, uh... spying he was doing), Megatron ordered Astrotrain to bring him in as a prisoner. Prisoners of war, Cosmos and Blaster were then welded to the wall and used as a power booster and tuning mechanism for Megatron's trans-scrambler, wiping out all radio contact on Earth. Luckily, Blaster managed to send his own signal along Megatron's scrambling beam, alerting the Autobots to their location. Omega Supreme arrived and drew the Decepticons' attention away from their base. Left alone, Cosmos had to do little more than raise his arm to fire off a particle beam that destroyed Megatron's antenna array and saved the day. Blaster Blues

I told you we should have gone hunting turkeys, but nooooooo...

Possibly Cosmos's shining moment was one for most of which he wasn't even conscious. Cosmos crash-landed rather dramatically on Titan after being shot down by the pursuing Astrotrain, who was after the energy data the Autobot carried. Cosmos's body was discovered by the moon's natives, but Astrotrain quickly followed up, having overheard their superstitious discussion and set himself up as one of their Sky Gods. The cowed, religious people quickly obeyed him, and Astrotrain put Cosmos's body in the main temple for use as an idol. The rebel Talaria overheard Astrotrain musing to himself about Cosmos's short-circuit and managed to use Cosmos's systems to get an SOS to the Autobots on Earth. With barely enough power flowing through his systems to stay active, Cosmos found a better use for it: shooting Starscream. With the Decepticon occupied for the moment, Talaria was able to escape unmolested. Jazz and Perceptor were dispatched to Titan via Omega Supreme, and Cosmos was recovered, the Decepticons sent packing, and the Titans were freed from religious dogma. The God Gambit

Somehow, Cosmos managed to talk Optimus Prime into letting him serve on Earth for a while as part of the Autobots' joint Crimebuster program with the NYPD. He observed a traffic jam while hovering over Times Square, and later tried to chase down Starscream on foot with Powerglide, only to end up causing massive structural damage to a human mall. Incidentally, Cosmos was back in space very shortly. Make Tracks

"Hang on while I jettison my head."

After Shrapnel and Bombshell pumped out hundreds of Insecticlones to swarm over the countryside and gather power, Prime sent Cosmos into space to retrieve a giant can of robotic insecticide. (Really — we can't make this stuff up.) On his way back with Spike and Bumblebee, though, Cosmos was attacked by Morphobots on Floron III. Although he managed to break loose of their grip, the techno-organic plants left behind spores on his hull which quickly developed into fully functioning vines that entangled Cosmos as he tried to re-enter Earth's atmosphere. Spike and Bumblebee escaped in an ejector chamber, but Cosmos did his crash-landing bit and was covered in Morphobots by the time he came to a stop, with the robotic insecticide can still inside him. Bumblebee summoned the other Autobots to try and help, and it was Blaster's obnoxious music that ultimately cleared the way and allowed them to free Cosmos. Hoist promised to give Cosmos "the best overhaul he'd ever had" when they got back to the Ark. Uh-huh... niiiiiice... Quest for Survival

Good evening, citizens of Earth.

When he uncovered a Decepticon operation to mine ore from an asteroid they'd pulled into orbit, Cosmos rushed back to warn Prime and gather a strike force. Optimus stressed caution instead and ordered Cosmos back up into space to acquire some hard evidence on the Decepticon activity. Cosmos did as he was asked and actually managed to grab a sample of ore right out of Astrotrain while the Constructicons were loading him up. He brought this "hard evidence" back to Earth to show Prime. The Autobot leader commended Cosmos on his work, but he wasn't quite done and sent Cosmos back out into orbit yet again, this time to track Astrotrain to the refinery the Decepticons must have been using to process the ore. Prime loves his outer space yo-yo. The Secret of Omega Supreme

When Seaspray intercepted a distress signal, Cosmos carried him, Bumblebee and Perceptor to the planet of the Tlalakans, a humanoid race held captive by the Decepticons. Too late, they realized that it was a Decepticon distress call. Droids blasted Cosmos, who (surprise, surprise) crashed on the planet. He remained damaged for a time, too much so to participate in many of the Autobots' adventures on the planet. Sea Change

Overflying Lord Chumley's castle, Cosmos reported back to headquarters that he'd found the Autobots who'd gone missing. He was able to transmit footage of the captives being subjected to Chumley's fiendish torture devices and report his coordinates to Teletraan I, but his transmission was cut off by Chumley himself, who invited Optimus to try and save his friends. After the Autobots retook Cybertron, Cosmos was on the planet monitoring incoming space traffic with Kup and Blaster. The planet was locked down due to the threat of an imminent attack, but an incoming human shuttle reported a mayday, and Kup ordered Cosmos to let it land. Unfortunately it was a trick, and they watched it crash into Cybertron's central power facility, disabling the planetary defences. Five Faces of Darkness, Part 4

Some time later, Cosmos was late flying in to Cybertron with Sky Lynx to see the activation of the new power platform. On his entry vector, Cosmos was blasted with anti-electrons, a dangerous substance designed to disrupt his normal operating functions. However, the anti-electrons seemed to have no effect on Cosmos at all, as moments later he crashlanded on Cybertron's surface. Perfectly normal. Grimlock's New Brain

Apparently Cosmos never bothered to get an Earth mode.

Cosmos was a member of Perceptor's resistance cell on Cybertron. Like most of the cell, he had a stronger respect for their top fighter Blaster than Perceptor, and along with the other Autobots overruled Perceptor's order not to search for Blaster's missing friend Scrounge. In the Dead End, Cosmos provided some life-giving fuel to ol' Wheezel for information, only to find that Scrounge had been taken away to Darkmount by the Decepticon Shrapnel. Realizing Scrounge was probably dead already in the smelting pool, Blaster went after his buddy anyway, and Cosmos and the others had to come after him and save his hide. Though Scrounge died, the Autobots managed to retrieve the last data from his infobanks, and learned that Optimus Prime and the crew of the Ark were alive and well on the planet Earth! The Smelting Pool!

Cosmos kills and kills and kills.

Galvanized by this knowledge, the Autobots planned a daring assault on Lord Straxus, planning to destroy both his seat of power at Darkmount and the new space bridge allowing transit to Earth. Darkmount was destroyed, but the Decepticons interrupted Blaster before he could finish setting the charges on the bridge. Instead, Cosmos, Blaster, and the rest of their unit were chased over the other side, and found themselves stuck on planet Earth. Here they were greeted immediately by a group of humans. The Bridge to Nowhere! Before they could react, they were approached by the Decepticon fliers Starscream, Thundercracker and Skywarp, who correctly identified them as Autobots and were about to open fire when Megatron realised the Ark was undefended and diverted his troops there instead. Command Performances!

However, the humans belonged to the anti-robot attack team, RAAT. While Cosmos and the other Autobots, unfamiliar with how things worked on Earth, tried to talk to their vehicles, RAAT deployed "electric snow" missiles to disorient them. Cosmos's group was then too dazed to fight back, and were captured with the help of Circuit Breaker. Heavy Traffic! Cosmos and his fellows were disassembled, with their heads getting mounted on the wall of RAAT's headquarters. Aerialbots over America! The Autobots were only released after Circuit Breaker was forced to elicit their aid by combining them into a giant mechanical suit to defeat the Battlechargers. Decepticon Graffiti!

Following Skids back to the Ark, Cosmos and the others got lost after their guide spontaneously vanished into limbo. Even worse was the reason for the disappearance—Galvatron had returned to the present. Unfortunately, Cosmos was punched out of the sky by Galvatron, and joined the rest of his comrades in defeat. Fallen Angel After Galvatron was forced into retreat by the vagrant Dinobots, Perceptor's team finally managed to reach the Ark, where they learned of Optimus Prime's apparent demise at the hands of the Predacons. Cosmos attended Prime's funeral and assimilated into Earth's depleted Autobot forces, though it was soon revealed that Prime's death was a ruse. Resurrection! When Tracks went missing following a reconnaissance mission in Greater Portland, it was Cosmos who searched human law enforcement computers and located the errant Autobot in New York, where two hoodlums were using him to commit a series of robberies. "Is this the line for the mutiny?"
When Optimus Prime died (for real) after a digital battle with Megatron, Cosmos observed with the other Autobots as Ratchet failed to successfully repair their fallen leader. After attending Prime's (real) funeral, a criminal known as the Mechanic turned the Ark's new security systems on the mourning Autobots, with devastating results. Though several were wounded, Ratchet was able to best the intruder and then tended to the wounds Cosmos and the others had suffered. Funeral for a Friend! Shortly afterwards the Ark came under attack from Trypticon, whose sonic-scrambler mines caused Cosmos and the other Autobots to lose control of their limbs, leaving them easy prey for his battle station mode. They were ultimately rescued by none other than Grimlock, who the Autobots immediately elected Prime's successor. King of the Hill! Unfortunately, Grimlock turned out to be a self-interested tyrant, but he did help get the Ark repaired and off of Earth, a large process that Cosmos contributed towards. Cosmos also aided in the construct of a variable voltage harness, to be used against "traitorous" Autobots. Child's Play Nevertheless, Cosmos was among the Autobots who begged Blaster to overthrow him, stating that the Autobots needed a "leader whose wires are connected," but the mutiny didn't pan out. Instead, Cosmos witnessed Grimlock's mock-execution of some young human prisoners to draw Blaster into a trap. Spacehikers!

Later, Blaster and Grimlock battled for supremacy on Earth's Moon, as Cosmos and the other Autobots cheered Blaster on. This event took an even uglier turn when Ratbat led the Decepticons in an ambush. Cosmos was seen facing down Razorclaw in the battle that followed, and by its conclusion Cosmos was among the Autobots still standing. Totaled!

Some time after Optimus Prime's return, Cosmos was among several Autobots who responded to Buster Witwicky's distress call near the Decepticons' arctic base. Cosmos watched as this scene once again turned into another battle with the Decepticons! Dark Star

"I don't know why Optimus wanted me to spy on the Decepticons while they pose for their box art, but okay..."

While the Autobots were discussing how nice the recent lull in Decepticon activity was, Cosmos cynically noted how they were due for another Decepticon attack.

Sure enough, in one possible sequence of events, Beachcomber, Windcharger and Powerglide uncovered a Decepticon ploy to destroy Center City. When splitting up the Autobot forces to combat the Decepticons on two fronts, one at their headquarters and the other at Center City, Optimus assigned Cosmos to the lead team.

In the event that the lead team was sent to attack the Decepticons’ fortress, Cosmos participated in the Autobot's main battle against the Decepticon forces. The Autobots emerged victorious that day.

In the event that the lead team was sent to defend Center City, Cosmos is confined within Optimus Prime's trailer so as to not cause a panic amongst the humans. Miserable in his current position, Cosmos asked Optimus to allow him to join the secondary team in attacking the fortress.

If Optimus agreed to let Cosmos join the secondary team, Cosmos zoomed back to meet up with the other Autobots. After radioing Smokescreen for the fortress's coordinates, Cosmos attempted to find the small team of Autobots, to no avail. Cosmos reasoned that if the other team of Autobots had failed in their mission, it would be up to him to save the world. Investigating a nearby noise, Cosmos came upon Starscream and Soundwave plotting together to overthrow Megatron. Cosmos then left the room, only to bump into Megatron himself!

If Megatron allowed the little Autobot to relate the information he had just discovered, the Decepticon leader became so enraged that he ignored Cosmos to confront the pair. As the infighting began, Cosmos inched away from the scene, only to bump into Sunstreaker, who informed Cosmos that the other Autobots had uncovered the Decepticons’ laboratory. The squadron was then able to recall the Destruction Beam to its point of origin, destroying the fortress and the Decepticons within in one fell swoop.

If Megatron didn't hear Cosmos out, he called his troops to him so that they could all partake in Cosmos's dismemberment. Before the Decepticons were able to begin, Cosmos spotted the secondary team hiding nearby. Surrounding the Decepticons, the secondary team engaged their enemies. Though the Autobots defeated the Decepticons, they are unable to interfere with the Destruction beam. The Destruction beamed reached its target, and Center City was destroyed. Though the Autobots were able to gain control of the Decepticon fortress and destroy the lab, they were not able to wipe out all of the evil robots, and enjoyed a pyrrhic victory at best.

Alternatively, If Optimus insisted that Cosmos stay with the lead team, Cosmos pointed out that the Autobots would not be able to do much good against the Decepticons if they remained in their vehicle modes. The Autobots picked up Sparkplug en route to consult him on the matter.

If Sparkplug suggested that the Autobots not worry about subtlety, the entire squad transformed and began prowling the streets in search of Decepticons, oblivious to the panic they were causing. Cosmos was the first to deduce that the Autobots were, in fact, the source of the humans’ agitation. Unable to restore order in time, Cosmos and the rest of the team were destroyed in the earthquake that ensued.

If Sparkplug suggested that the Autobots remained in their vehicle modes, the human would concoct a plan wherein the Autobots would help evacuate the entire town in their vehicle modes. While the land-based Autobots did the evacuating, Cosmos maintained a high altitude to avoid being seen by the humans and be on the lookout for Decepticons. Once the evacuation was completed, Cosmos spotted Megatron's forces coming over the horizon. With the humans out of harm's way, the Autobots transformed and engaged the approaching Decepticons, whom they easily dispatched. With the humans safe, the Autobots moved out to help their comrades at the Decepticon fortress. Earthquake

Desert Flight

Where is Cosmos going to crash? To have him crash into the Ark, turn to page 29. To have him crash in the middle of nowhere, turn to page 36. To have him crash in an active volcano, turn to page 45.

Optimus allowed Cosmos a break from his monotonous duty in Earth orbit by assigning him to investigate a large explosion in a remote desert, suspecting it to be Decepticon activity. Cosmos was thankful for the excitement, and soon came upon a Decepticon base.

If Cosmos radioed his findings to Optimus immediately, Optimus's convoy moved in to investigate, and Cosmos was instructed to stand down for the time being.

If Optimus ordered his troops to attack the Decepticon base, Beachcomber bumped into Cosmos as the Autobot dune buggy was goofing about in the low-gravity environment. The Autobots soon reached an area free of the anti-gravity beam's influence, and Cosmos joined them on their assault on the Decepticon base. They were then attacked by a small fleet of Decepticons. The Decepticons were quickly forced to break off their attack and retreated. But with the battle over, the Autobots noticed a small human boy at their feet. The Autobots then headed for the Decepticon base, with their stowaway. Megatron delivered an ultimatum; if the Autobots did not surrender Optimus Prime to the Decepticons immediately, he would use his gravity beam to have the nearby humans float off into space.

If the Autobots decided to continue with their initial plan to simply attack the Decepticon base, their advance was halted by a force field. Megatron then fired his beam in all directions, causing a ripple effect that sent everything not fastened down to the Earth's surface to float helplessly out into space.

Alternatively, the Autobots could concoct a plan where Optimus would pretend to allow himself to be taken prisoner, per Buddy's suggestion. Cosmos would relay the message to Megatron that the Autobots would think overnight on the ultimatum. Though Optimus pretended to have surrendered the next morning, in actuality most of the Autobots were hidden away inside Optimus's trailer. Powerglide and Cosmos were themselves waiting outside the base for Windcharger to disable the forcefield from within.

In the event that Buddy tampered with the gravity gun in the ensuing battle, the Autobots would emerge victorious.

If Buddy instead cowered away, Cosmos had to rescue Optimus after he had been hit by the gravity beam. Optimus then instructed Cosmos to send him flying towards Hook; the pair took out the Constructicon, and gained control of the gravity beam.

In the event that Buddy instead entered a space-time anomaly created throughout the course of the battle, the Autobots would lose their fight against the Decepticons, and Cosmos wound up either injured or dead.

In another possible turn of events, Buddy was almost captured by Laserbeak. When Laserbeak dropped the boy, Cosmos caught him in the soft chair of his cockpit. Cosmos then kept Buddy out of harm's way until the Autobots defeated the Decepticons.

In a completely different possible sequence of events, wherein Cosmos decided to investigate the Decepticon base on his own, he was captured immediately by Buzzsaw and Dirge. The pair then brought their captive before Megatron. Megatron explained that he planned to create a perfect duplicate of Cosmos, save that it would conceal within itself a powerful proton bomb. The duplicate would then be used to destroy Optimus Prime and the rest of the Autobots. Once Hook had completed his task of creating the false Cosmos, the real one was stuffed away in a cell. Cosmos was quickly able to escape his prison, and found himself trying to find an escape route from the Decepticon base.

If Cosmos attempted to escape through a nearby door, a hidden booby-trap blew him to smithereens. If Cosmos went up a nearby flight of stairs, he soon found himself outside the Decepticons’ base. Cosmos took off to try and stop his duplicate from destroying his friends, and quickly caught up with his doppelgänger. Unfortunately, the Autobots had difficulty telling which Cosmos was the real one as both spaceships streaked towards them.

If Optimus destroyed the duplicate Cosmos, the real one would inform the Autobots of the Decepticons’ schemes, and the convoy would roll out to take on their adversaries. They were soon met by a squad of flying Decepticons, but were at a strict disadvantage against their adversaries as their vehicle modes possessed no weapons. Smokescreen hatched a plan where the Autobots would use their exhaust fumes to provide themselves with cover.

If Optimus went along with Smokescreen's plan, the Autobots gained the time they needed to transform and engage the Decepticons. A fierce battle ensued, though the Autobots began to lose ground when Dirge put to good use his fear-inducing engines. Cosmos was unaffected long enough for him to have an opening on Dirge.

If Optimus shot down Dirge himself, the Autobots would become inspired by their leader's battle prowess, and would fight on to victory!

If Cosmos took the shot, he was able to force the Decepticons to retreat back to their base. The Autobots then managed to fight their way to the Decepticons’ base, and defeated the Decepticons by using their own gravity weapon against them. Desert Flight

Autobot Alert!

While at his usual post in Earth orbit, Cosmos spotted a squadron of Decepticons encroaching on his position, and sounded an Autobot Alert, warning Ultra Magnus in Metroplex city of his findings. He was zapped by the Decepticons before he could go into deeper detail, and his communique with Autobot headquarters was cut off abruptly.

If Ultra Magnus and a small team of Autobots headed out to rescue Cosmos, they soon found him drifting in the blackness of space after taking off in an Autobot shuttle. He was quickly pulled onboard via magnetic cables. Though severely injured, Cosmos was still alive. Whether Cosmos was subsequently destroyed or returned safely to base depended on what decisions the other Autobots made. Autobot Alert!

Transformers in 3-D

Transformers in 3-D takes place at some point after the events of "The Rebirth".

Cosmos happened on space station S.S. Exton 9, under attack by the Decepticons, and encountered five children. The children believed that their only chance of freeing their families from the Decepticon suspension-ray beam was to travel to Andellor to obtain the Prism of Power, and they persuaded Cosmos to take them there. After avoiding some space vultures, the small Autobot ran into Scorponok, Cyclonus and Octane, who insisted he lead them to Andellor. With no other choice, Cosmos complied, but with the help of Ironhide and Andellor's native fauna, managed to lose the trio.

After obtaining the Prism, he flew Ironhide and the children back to Exton 9 and kept Galvatron busy while the kids used the crystal. Cosmos later returned the Prism to Andellor. Transformers in 3-D #2

Much later, Cosmos was stationed on Earth, part of a small detachment under Prowl's command. In cooperation with Hawk and Firewall, the team worked to round up stray Cybertronian technology on Earth. When an emergency came up, he arrived over Hawk's back yard to beam him aboard and carried him to the Arc II. Cosmos then joined Prowl's team on a mission to capture Destro and some of his arms-purchasing clients; Cosmos himself lassoed the buyer, then evacuated the squad before the G.I. Joe team could arrive.

Later, when the submerged Arc II was attacked by the Pretender Monsters, Cosmos dodged the giant organic craft that had flown the Decepticons there. Eject brought Firewall to the water's surface, where Cosmos picked her up. The two headed for Tibet to help out the team under Optimus Prime's command. Black Horizon, Part 1 of 2

The words "Flying Hamburger" do come to mind.

On arrival, though, all they found was snow-blown mountain wastes, until something grabbed Firewall and pulled her below ground. Shortly afterward, an avalanche swept Cosmos away. Recovering, Cosmos searched near and far for Firewall, but finally came upon Flint and Joe Colton, holding off a band of Yeti; his firepower quickly turned the tide of the fight.

Then, Cosmos and his best mate Flint flew into space and down the attacking Unicron's throat, intending to kill him with a metal-eating fungus from Cobra-La. They dodged the planet-eater's "anti-bodies" on the way to his brain, but Cosmos was eventually paralyzed by a magnetic pulse, which meant Flint had to carry out the mission on his own. By the time he had spread the spores into Unicron's brain, Cosmos had recovered and sped out of there with Flint before everything came crashing down. After getting confused by Flint's jokes about Unicron's demise, he returned to Earth and shook hands with Optimus Prime. Black Horizon, Part 2 of 2

Night of the Combaticons Their mission led them into conflict with the super-powered clone known as Sunstorm. He overloaded the Orion with energy, causing it to crash. The Orion's crew walked away from their rough landing unharmed however, and Sunstorm left in pursuit of Starscream. Cosmos and his team set about repairing their ship, and accomplished the task in a few hours. The Autobots were getting ready for some well-earned rest when Starscream returned, now accompanied by Jetfire. Black Sunshine The Autobots soon began an uncomfortable alliance with Starscream against the greater evil of Sunstorm. Of course, Starscream turned on them first chance he got, and Cosmos was one of the Autobots he knocked off-line while making his escape. The Omega Effect

Doc Ratchet had Cosmos fixed up in a few days, though, and he was last seen helping with the construction of Autobot City on Earth. The Route of All Evil

The Beast Within

Cosmos participated in a savage battle against the Decepticons, though he did not fare too well, and plummeted down, aflame in his saucer mode, as the carnage raged around him. The Beast Within

Cosmos managed to survive long enough to, at the very least, assume his robot form. His corpse nonetheless later lay inert amongst the mass Autobot/Decepticon grave that the battlefield had become. The Beast Within Part 2, Consequences

Universe comic

Voice actor: Michael McConnohie (English)

Cosmos was briefly caught up in the Universe War while aboard the starship OTFCC with Bumblebee and Tracks when a spatial vortex created by Rhinox pulled them into conflict over a frozen planetoid with the Minions of Unicron. Autobots and Maximals from several time periods and universal streams joined forces and repulsed the Minions. Afterwards, Cosmos and his comrades were returned to their proper space/time. "We ain't come this far just to dump this thing in the drink. What's the nearest target opportunity?"

Cosmos had joined the Autobot ranks on Earth by the time they forged a secret alliance with Skywatch. When the Autobots did battle with the Combaticons in North Korea—a mission where secrecy was of utmost importance—Cosmos was sent into space to keep human satellites from spotting them. He successfully hacked the five satellites watching the area into broadcasting a loop of ordinary farmers instead. Hawk Among the Sparrows

Unfortunately, this meant Skywatch couldn't oversee the battle either, so when the situation got complicated, Cosmos was ordered to free up one satellite for them to use. He grumbled a bit about how his job wasn't exactly a piece of cake, but these orders turned out to be nothing compared to his next mission: redirecting a nuclear warhead already on its way towards North Korea. As Cosmos began rewiring the missile in mid-flight, he commented that he really deserved some more respect for his efforts. Thanks to his intervention, the nuke detonated safely in the Arctic Circle. All My Sins Remembered

Remaining in orbit, Cosmos was later joined by Jetfire, and together they turned a Skywatch communications satellite into a weapon by dropping it through the atmosphere at Mach 10 right on top of Megatron. He survived the impact with just a few scratches, but still, they tried. Enemy Mine

Cosmos was among the Autobots who left Earth behind to return to a restored Cybertron. On the way, he and many others stared in disbelief and fascination at Megatron, who was in Autobot captivity on board Omega Supreme. Chaos Theory #1 Upon arrival, Cosmos and the other Autobots were poised to fight against Galvatron's army occupying Cybertron. Led by Silverbolt, he and the other Autobot fliers attacked Kimia Facility and fought with the many Sweeps defending it. Numbers

At the moment of Cybertron's revival, Ironhide and Jhiaxus saw a vision of the future. Fifteen million years hence, Cosmos had apparently received his due respect, as a statue for him was erected on Gorlam Prime near one for Bumblebee. Pax Cybertronia

"And all this upgrade cost me was some fingers! Plus now I kind of look like a Ninja Turtle."

Following the defeat of Galvatron, Cosmos acquired a new, massive body and joined the crew of the Lost Light on its mission to find the mythical Knights of Cybertron. Hangers On The Chaos of Warm Things On a duplicate of the Lost Light created by an accident with the quantum engines, a duplicate Cosmos grappled with Tesarus. He most likely didn't survive. The Road Not Taken

The main Cosmos was among those defeated when Overlord was let loose on board the ship. Under Cold Blue Stars When the Lost Light was attacked by Ammonites, Cosmos helped defend it in UFO mode. Into the Abyss The ship then returned to Cybertron, where the crew celebrated the recent victory of Shockwave's Necrotitan. The Becoming It didn't end there, however, as Shockwave summoned an army of Ammonites to Cybertron, forcing Cosmos to take to the skies and fight them. Black Planet ...And the Damage Done

....Whose hand is that? Cosmos, are you trying to hug someone again?

In the wake of Shockwave's defeat, Cosmos attended the trial of a surrendered Megatron. Towards Peace Ever lonely and looking for social interaction, he tried to discuss the results of the trial with Prowl, who promised him a bold new future as part of Optimus Prime's new mission to Earth. Hello Cruel World When the Ark-7 got close to Earth, Cosmos remarked on Prowl's calling the planet "home" after how terribly things had gone the last time the Autobots were there. Cosmos was taken aback when Prowl promptly asked if he trusted Optimus's leadership, and even moreso when Prowl complained about Prime being a "hero cop" despite his own paint job. I Dream of Wires To his annoyance, Cosmos soon found that this new Earth mission just led to another big mess as he had to defend the Ark-7 from human missiles the minute they arrived. Hello Cruel World Remaining in orbit as the Earth team's eye in the sky, he found his communications blocked by Soundwave and called Prowl for assistance. Detonation Boulevard Once the Earth team had fled their human and Decepticon attackers, Cosmos reported that Earth Defense Command was setting off EMPs in Poverty Flat to destroy any proof of the Transformers being back. The Mind Bomb Cosmos was then ordered by Prowl to travel five light-hours away from Earth so as to take photos of events that had transpired on Earth five hours ago, confirming that the Decepticons had a new method of teleportation. Cosmos was not very happy about being sent so far, and became considerably less happy when Kup started joking about how blurry his photos were before being ordered back to Earth. Full Fathom Five Prowl would then call in Cosmos to aid Devastator in demolishing Earth Defense Command's Bikini Atoll base. I Dream of Wires

Nice try, but we know that wasn't you.

When Optimus and Alpha Trion went to Earth's moon to privately discuss the history of the Enigma of Combination and the Thirteen Tribes, a stealth-painted Cosmos secretly monitored their entire conversation and beamed it back to Prowl. The Crucible Sent out to spy again with the stealth paint, this time on the remnants of the EDC's Bikini Atoll base, Cosmos found himself under fire by a barrage of missiles despite the paint. Ranting about how frustrated he was with recent events to Kup over the radio while avoiding the missiles, Cosmos was soon rescued by Sky Lynx and Sideswipe. As the two made fun of Cosmos's attempts at holding off the missiles and told him to leave destroying the weapons to them, the despondent Autobot went inside of Sky Lynx where Prowl contacted him and told him to get back to the Ark-7, Prowl having just learned that Spike Witwicky had resurfaced. When Sky Lynx returned to the Ark-7, Cosmos was surprised to see Optimus leaving and also had to listen to another of Prowl's angry rants. Signals, Calls, and Marches Cosmos would later report to Prowl that a Decepticon shuttle was on its way to Onyx's Wanmu facility, and was quickly ordered to block all signals from getting out of that area. This is not my beautiful home! This is not my beautiful wife!

Ever lonely, Cosmos soon befriended Jetfire's drone D.0.C., even despite Jetfire's objections that D.0.C. wasn't truly alive and simply a tool. After Jetfire examined an Onyx tablet and learned that it used ancient Cybertronian source code, Arcee sent Cosmos on a mission to investigate the Decepticon commune being built near Jupiter; a mission which Cosmos thought would have little excitement. Now and On Earth

(thumbnail)
"Good grief, the comedian's an Autobot!"

That would end up being far from the truth, however. While scouting the outside of the commune, and complaining to himself about how miserable and ignored he'd been feeling lately, Cosmos was met by none other than Soundwave. Declining the Decepticon's invitation to come inside, Cosmos led him on a chase through Jupiter's rings, which ended when Soundwave slammed Cosmos into an asteroid. Believing that he was about to be tortured for information, Cosmos was surprised when Soundwave expressed no desire to do so, pointing out that the war was over and claiming that the Decepticons had changed since Megatron left them for the Autobots, now simply desiring equality. When Soundwave asked Cosmos to talk to his "masters" in the Autobots about giving the Decepticons access to their newly acquired space bridge, Cosmos objected to anyone being his "masters", but was given silent pause when Soundwave questioned him about how well his comrades actually treat him. Cosmos was subsequently left speechless when Soundwave invited him to come live aboard the commune and be free from war and servitude, leading Soundwave to suggest he return to his ship and think it over; if Cosmos wanted to contact him, the Autobot would simply have to say Soundwave's name. Wanting to thank Soundwave for his words (and for not killing him), Cosmos told him about how Onyx had been using old Cybertronian code in its operating system, and to be careful with his human allies. Soundwave then revealed how he saw humans as expedient allies and less than equal to Cybertronians, being more akin to drones—drones just like D.0.C. Returning to the Ark-7, Cosmos told Arcee nothing of what had transpired and was warmly welcomed by D.0.C. while heading for his recharge slab, where the drone curled up by Cosmos's feet as he thought over the day's events. South of Heaven

Whole cities have faked their own deaths to avoid hanging out with him.

As Jetfire examined the coding within the recovered Onyx tablet, Cosmos found himself forced to listen as the scientist worked on it. He didn't find it particularly exciting. When Jetfire wanted to use D.0.C. to track the source of the quantum signal he found inside of the tablet, Cosmos objected to his friend being treated like a dog, but no one else shared his sentiments and Arcee ordered him to go into Earth orbit to monitor Jetfire's team. After the team on Earth was captured by Garrison Blackrock's forces and the Ark-7 was trapped inside of its own force field, Cosmos found himself all alone as he futilely tried to contact his teammates. The Nothing Man

Fearing his friends might be dead and having nowhere else left to turn, the panicking Cosmos returned to Sanctuary Station for Soundwave's help, and the Decepticon promptly invited him inside the commune. Aphelion Cosmos's fears became far from subsided when Soundwave failed to hear his fellow Autobots anywhere, and he soon became outraged when Soundwave contacted Galvatron to confirm his taking control of the Ark-7's space bridge, believing that the Decepticons were involved with what happened to the other Autobots. Despite Soundwave's claims that the Decepticons were merely taking advantage of the situation and would soon bring about a new era of peace, Cosmos gave in to despair and regretted ever coming to the space station, wishing he was with D.0.C. instead. Lagrange

Apparently Cosmos is a reverse Hulk, getting smaller when he's angry.

Even as he thought of his friend, D.0.C. would actually end up showing Thundercracker a hologram of Cosmos and Soundwave while infiltrating the EDC's base. Helden As Soundwave became enraged when it was revealed that Galvatron had no intention of helping to bring about his dream of peace, the jaded Cosmos was unsurprised. He didn't respond very well to Sky-Byte's attempts to comfort him, either. Perihelion

When Soundwave decided to rescue those Decepticons Galvatron had misled into joining him, Cosmos went along with him and piloted the Peace Without Tyranny, landing it in the midst of the battlefield that Shanghai had become as Optimus Prime's forces clashed against the People's Liberation Army Mecha Force. While the weary Decepticons started boarding the ship, Cosmos wanted to get the struggling Autobots on board as well, but Soundwave refused to let on anyone who would follow a Prime. Deciding that he couldn't abandon his friends, Cosmos wished Soundwave good luck with his endeavors and joined the Autobots in fighting off their human attackers. Cosmos then found Arcee, Sideswipe, and Alpha Trion within the wreckage of the crashed Ark-7 just before the Autobots all got on board the Skyroller and fled Shanghai. When the Autobots began establishing their new Earth HQ at Thundercracker's home, Cosmos helped in construction efforts. Once Upon a Time on Earth

(thumbnail)
Just happy to be on a team.

Cosmos travelled alongside his fellow fliers when the Autobots were forced to leave this temporary base by the humans hunting them. Edge of the Earth Cosmos greeted Optimus when he returned to their Monument Valley bivouac from Caminus, and informed him of how he could now use the Skyroller with all of the injured loaded off, but was nervous about Optimus's intention to leave for Sanctuary Station; he believed that Soundwave would help the Autobots if it was anyone but Optimus who went to meet him, due to the Decepticon's hatred of all things Prime. Cosmos's nervousness wasn't helped by Optimus stating that he wanted Soundwave to bow to him, not someone else. The Medium and the Message Despite Cosmos's reservations, Optimus managed to get Soundwave to enter into an alliance with his Autobots, and Cosmos went along for the new partnership's first objective of attacking the undersea Nemesis and bringing in Galvatron. During the battle, however, Cosmos was one of several Autobots forced by Galvatron and the Onyx source code's Enigma energies to combine into Sky Reign! It's Beginning To And Back Again Fortunately, he didn't have to stay combined against his will for long before Superion took control of the Earth Enigma and made Sky Reign's components separate. As Above...So Below

If you're trying to impress people, maybe you should rethink that whole "fighting Galvatron" thing.

As he made sure that everyone else was all right in the aftermath of the clash, Cosmos thought he was being sent for yet another observation mission when Arcee ordered him to get moving. However, his bitter resignation turned to shock when Arcee grabbed onto him as he took off and told him that Optimus had given them the assignment of going after the fleeing Galvatron and Astrotrain! Knowing that Prime hadn't forgotten about him as he believed, Cosmos was all too eager to open fire on Astrotrain. However, Cosmos's jubilation at being in the thick of things was short-lived, as Galvatron struck him with a blast that took out a large chunk of his body. Realizing that Galvatron was headed for Sanctuary Station, and that he would end up shattering Soundwave's dream, the badly-wounded Cosmos managed to fire one last shot directly into Astrotrain's engine, sending him and Galvatron plummeting toward Jupiter. Convincing the reluctant Arcee to leave him and continue the chase, Cosmos was saved by none other than Laserbeak and Buzzsaw, who took him to Sanctuary Station for repairs. Sadly, this meant being forced to listen to their jokes for the whole trip there. No Fair Fights

DanceAmongTheShadows CosmosVSharkticons.jpg

Cosmos spent the next several months recovering on Sanctuary Station, until Soundwave contacted him to return to Earth and use Jetfire's stealth paint to investigate the newly arrived Junkions' spacecraft. Although Cosmos was ready to get back into action, he was not as enthusiastic about bringing Rumble and Frenzy with him as back-up. The trio managed to enter the Junkion ship upon arriving back on Earth, Cosmos's attempts at small talk with the two Decepticons not amounting to much. Unaware that the Junkions were well aware of their movements, the stealth paint having failed, the three came to a large room that appeared to be empty. That assumption proved to be wrong, however, as a legion of Sharkticons leaped down from the ceiling and began trying to snack on Cosmos! Behind My Bleeding Back Although heavily mauled by the Sharkticons, Cosmos was spared and taken prisoner by the Junkions. When the Junkions went to meet with Optimus's Autobots and several world leaders, the brutalized Cosmos was tossed from their ship by a vengeance-hungry Rum-Maj. Dance Among the Shadows In the ensuing chaos, as the Junkions and Sharkticons attacked those gathered, Cosmos was saved from hitting the ground by Soundwave, and promptly complained about constantly being beaten up. While receiving medical attention from Hi-Tech, Cosmos told Soundwave about his discovery of the Sharkticons aboard the Junkions' vessel. Future Glories Lost After the Sharkticons abruptly left their pen, where Rumble and Frenzy were still struggling against them, Frenzy suggested that Cosmos might have talked the creatures out of eating them; Rumble, on the other hand, thought the Autobot had been killed. Feel Safe Without Regrets

*Uncontrollable sobbing*

Upon being repaired, Cosmos returned once more to Sanctuary Station. When Thundercracker came by to check on things following the Iron Ring's attack on Cybertron, Cosmos greeted him and Buster. After some confusion over Thundercracker's request for somewhere that Buster could relieve herself, Cosmos checked who was off the station and found that the shuttle Liberty One was unaccounted for. Cosmos tried to ask if anyone else knew who had taken it, prompting Slugslinger to lie that he didn't. During an interview, Cosmos told how he felt trusted aboard the station and that, while he still often felt like an Autobot, he also thought that everyone needed to get along with the war now over—especially with all happening on Cybertron. Primeless, Part 2

Cosmos was still on Sanctuary Station when news of Unicron's attack on Cybertron reached the station. He would have no time to process this, however, as Bludgeon's Maximal armada promptly appeared and began to attack them. Cosmos was prepared to defend the station alone to his last moment to ensure the others escaped safely, but was joined on his last mission by Laserbeak, Buzzsaw, and Sky-Byte. The team of four flew out to engage the mutated Worldsweepers and Maximals in a firefight, and were soon outgunned and killed by the insurmountable enemy. Their sacrifice was not in vain, however, as the other occupants of Sanctuary Station managed to escape the attack and flee to Earth. Road's End After he sacrificed his own life to help defeat Unicron, Soundwave glimpsed the spirit of Cosmos, among others, welcoming him into the Afterspark. Ceremony

WheeljackOrbitalDecay-CosmosAltMode.jpg

When a Titan other than Lodestar plotted a course for the Winged Moon, Cosmos touched down on the satellite to query Wheeljack about the arrival. In short order, the Titan was found to be Vigilem who engaged in a vicious dogfight with Lodestar. At Wheeljack's order, Cosmos joined the engineering staff in seeking shelter within the Moon before the rogue Titan severed the Tether and sent the Moon hurtling off into space. The Change In Your Nature Part Five

Once the Moon had been evacuated, Cosmos helped try to salvage it. After a failed attempt to use pressurized Energon as a thruster, Cosmos used his alternate mode to scout a path through the Croaton Cloud alongside Lancer's shuttler before she called for his aid in detaining an Infiltration Trooper. Once the Trooper, Enemy, was detained Cosmos shuttled explosives on the Moon's wings, tracking the satellite's progress when they were detonated, joyously reported that they were in longer in danger of falling into the sun. As the group celebrated, however, Team Stream arrived to steal the moon. Wheeljack: Orbital Decay

While Wheeljack managed to escape back to Cybertron, Prime the rest of them barricaded themselves in the control room, managing to hold out until the Autobots arrived aboard Sky Lynx. The hostiles retreated following Lancer detonating a short-lived singularity. As the Autobots evacuated, Cosmos noted that, despite Huffer writing off the Moon, someone would figure out how to save it. Committed to watching over the Moon until that happened, Cosmos asked Lancer to pass on an invitation to Blast Off to join him in his vigil. Moon

Blast Off did indeed eventually rendezvous with him, and he and Cosmos spent some quality time alone together making the Winged Moon hospitable again. After the Autobots left Cybertron aboard the Ark, Lodestar, and Sky Lynx, they headed for the Winged Moon. Although Blast Off was grumpy that their alone time was at an end, Cosmos eagerly waited to greet the new arrivals. Fate of Cybertron

Cosmos chose his unusual alternate mode in the belief that no one would believe anyone who happened to see him in action. While investigating reports of stolen paradrium crystals in southern Florida, Cosmos encountered the the Blue Space Ranger T.J. Johnson in a warehouse belonging to local roadside entrepreneur Simon Sabhaman. The two mistook each other for enemies; amidst the confusion, however, Prototype Tezzla of the Unforgettable Alliance blasted the both of them with a disorienting jolt of memorium. Cosmos temporarily forgot how to transform out of his alternate mode; Tezzla's Cogs dragged him into a nearby warehouse and hid him under a tarp, disguising him as just one more attraction amidst the wealth of "alien" paraphernalia already present. When Cosmos failed to report in, Ultra Magnus took note of the disappearance and assembled a rescue party to find him.

When a group of G.I. Joes arrived at the warehouse, Zandar unveiled Cosmos's unconscious body as a distraction and touted the "UFO" as an upcoming exhibit. Ultimately, a group of Autobots, Power Rangers, and G.I. Joes were able to see through the ruse and rescued Cosmos and T.J. Memories and Salvation

The Transformers

(thumbnail)
Hovering sombrero, don't be shy.
  • Cosmos (Mini Vehicle, 1985/1986)
  • Takara name: Adams
Premiering in the second year of the Hasbro The Transformers line, Mini Vehicle Cosmos transforms into a "flying saucer", specifically the Adamski-style saucer that is (inexplicably) the staple Japanese depiction of a UFO. His underside has little wheels for when you just gotta roll a saucer around.
His head is particularly prone to having the red paint rubbed off on the upper ridge, as it's the grip-point for pulling his head out for transformation. Samples without a yellow ring on the top of the head are not terribly common.
There are a few very minor variants of this toy, regarding the company stamping on his underside. Some versions have "© Takara 1984 Japan" stamped on the chunk of saucer hanging off his butt, while others have "© Takara Co. LTD 1984 Japan" there. Later releases added a "© Hasbro 1984" stamp on the bottom of his mono-foot between his wheels; this can be found with both versions of the Takara info. Riveting, we know.
In 1986, he was made available as a mail-away item in the "Digital Doom on the Highway to Destruction" flier packed with most boxed Transformers toys. He cost $4 and one Robot Point.
In Japan, despite his notable presence in the cartoon, he was not available in the regular retail line, but was sold only as a mail-away item. He cost 500 yen and 2 robot points.

  • Minibots Team (Multi-pack, 2005)
  • ID number: 12 (set), 86 (individual)
"Adams" was reissued in Takara's The Transformers Collection series, largely identical to his original release. The only notable difference is the chest sticker, which now has an Autobot symbol kind of awkwardly stamped over the other detailing.
He was only available in a Minibots multi-pack, along with Bumble, Gears, Drag, Powerglide, and Warpath.
This version, with the altered sticker, was used to make Path Finder.

  • Autobot Cosmos (Legends, 2009)
  • Series: G1 Series
  • Known designers: Bill Rawley (Hasbro)
Released in the fifth and final wave of 2008 Universe Legends Class toys, Cosmos still transforms into a flying saucer-type "UFO", but now looks less like a doorbell, now being a much flatter disc with a tailfin.
Designer Bill Rawley claims responsibility for the markings on Cosmos, which spell out his name in "Cybertronian" lettering.
Hasbro's stock photography for this toy lacks the Autobot sigil on his chest.

Cause nothing says "Spy" like a giant flying saucer.
  • Minibot Spy Team (Multi-pack, 2009)
  • ID number: C-19
Henkei! Henkei! Adams is a redeco of Universe Cosmos with a more olive green, a more orange-yellow, and silver and blue paint operations that have swapped colors.
He was only available in a three-pack with similarly redecoed Legends-class versions of Warpath and Wheelie.

  • Autobot Cosmos & Payload (Legends Class, 2014)
Part of the fifth wave of 2012-onwards Generations Legends Class toys, Thrilling 30 "Autobot Cosmos" is roughly the size of a Cyberverse Commander Class toy and transforms into a flying saucer. He comes with Payload (based on the Micromaster Blast Master), who transforms into a robot, a white space shuttle, and a double-barreled blaster for Cosmos to wield via its 5mm post. In Cosmos's vehicle mode, Payload's thrusters can be pegged onto Cosmos' front cannons to simulate a docking feature.
This toy was redecoed into Adventure Adams and remolded and redecoed as Combiner Wars Scrounge.

  • Kreon Class of 1985 (Kreon figure set, 2015)
  • Set number: B5152
  • Voted: Most Out There
  • Accessories: Scoped pistol
Kre-O "Autobot Cosmos" is a Kreon figure with tampograph detailing based heavily on the original Cosmos toy. He uses the 2015-style Kreon body, which has been severely altered, making him largely incompatible with older Kreons.
He was only available as part of the San Diego Comic-Con-exclusive "Kreon Class of '85" thirty-Kreon set. This set was also sold online through Hasbro Toy Shop after the show.

Titans Return

I'm a different shade of green. BUY ME!
  • Autobot Cosmos (Legends Class, 2017)
Part of the fifth and final wave of the Titans Return Legends Class assortment, Cosmos is, in an unexpected move, not a new figure, but merely a very minor redeco and retool of the Thrilling 30 figure described above. According to a Hasbro representative, this re-release was decided upon because Hasbro believed the original Thrilling 30 toy had been too hard to find.
Payload is omitted, and the deco has been ever-so-slightly changed: the green plastic is now cast in a slightly darker shade, the yellow plastic is slightly paler, the head is cast in red plastic rather than in white plastic with the helmet painted over in red, the forearms are now yellow, the visor, windows and waist detail are now painted in metallic blue rather than the flat blue of the previous release, and the Autobot insignia on his right shoulder is much smaller, probably to make him more accurate to his IDW design. Additionally, like with Combiner Wars Scrounge, the hole on the bottom of his UFO mode was slightly retooled, allowing him to attach to Combiner Wars Strafe's arm mode if you feel like doing so. Due to their unique shared contruction, he can also attach as a shield to Combiner Wars Mirage and Dragstrip in their arm or leg modes.
Since Cosmos features no other retooling, he is not designed to interact with Titan Master figures.
Like the rest of his toyline, Cosmos comes with a collector's card, although strangely it features his 'flying saucer' mode, unlike most of the line's cards which showcase the character's robot mode. Seaspray, his wavemate, also shares this oddity.

Here's what you didn't win.
  • Autobot Cosmos (Deluxe Class, 2022)
Velocitron Speedia 500 Collection "Autobot Cosmos" is a Deluxe Class figure that transforms into a flying saucer based on his original design, albeit with a rather tall top. He has multiple 5 mm post-holes in both modes in order to make use of the many other figures from recent years that disassemble into weapons and armor, plus his blaster and UFO mode particle cannons are compatible with the "Fire Blast effects" that came with many other toys... but sadly, his wrist-blasters and saucer-mode thruster-pipes are not.
He comes with a hard-plastic checkered flag piece that can connect to his blaster, which Cosmos can then hold by the barrel to wave the flag around. The other side of the flag is completely white; this has been jokingly referred to as a "surrender flag" in developer livestreams, but in racing terms, white flags can indicate slow-moving vehicles on the track or the start of the final lap (depending on the racing organization).
Cosmos's deco is missing the yellow frame around his blue chest details due to several of his major appearances in the cartoon being colored incorrectly (see Notes for more details). Speaking of missing deco, the stock CG renders depicted on the back of his packaging show him with an Autobot symbol on the silver stripe at the front of his disc/feet, but the final product lacks this symbol.
This toy was originally intended to be a partial retooling of the Buzzworthy Bumblebee "Origin Bumblebee" figure, but the engineers were able to figure out how to make an entire Deluxe Class figure out of the mere three sets of tooling that would nominally be allocated to a six-tools-total Deluxe. Impressive![1]
The Velocitron Speedia 500 Collection was exclusive to Walmart in the US, with Hasbro Pulse receiving limited quantities of the figure. The series went up for pre-order on July 21st 2022, and started arriving in stores by August 1st. However, Cosmos and Clampdown were both shortpacked at one each per case where everyone else in the Deluxe assortment shipped at two per, thus those two pre-sold-out very quickly at both Pulse and Walmart's website. Unlike Clampdown, Cosmos wasn't repacked in any fashion in the following wave either... so that's unfortunate. By contrast, the figure was available in larger quantities at HasbroPulse's German website, or simply less people purchased it from there, as it remained in stock for most of Q3 2022. Additionally, Cosmos, like the rest of the Velocitron Speedia 500 Collection, was exclusive to Smyths Toys in the United Kingdom, Ireland and Germany. Unlike Walmart in the United States, Smyths received solid cases of each figure, which resulted in Cosmos becoming a shelfwarmer, eventually being clearanced in 2023. The series was a TakaraTomy Mall exclusive in Japan, and a Farmers department store exclusive in New Zealand. In September 2023, leftover stock of the Velocitron Speedia 500 Collection figures, including Cosmos, started appearing at Ross stores in the United States.
Cosmos, due to popular demand, was later re-released at standard retail, in the eleventh wave of Legacy deluxes, under the United banner, alongside many other prior exclusives that US fans found difficult to acquire. The reissued version has slightly different paint applications.
This mold was also used to make Generations Selects Go-Bots Guardians Pathfinder.

What could have been...

What could have been if he'd only found the salad bar...
  • The creative team went through multiple preliminary names before settling on Cosmos, including Spaceracer, then Spaceshot and then Shooting Star.[2]
  • Michael McConnohie's voice for Cosmos is a heavily processed impression of film star Peter Lorre. More precisely, McConnohie has stated in his BotCon appearances that he was doing an intentionally bad impression of Peter Lorre, which he sheepishly admitted came off sounding like a Spanish accent at times. (Until the source of Cosmos's voice was confirmed, fans would sometimes speculate that Cosmos sounded Spanish.)
  • It is presumed that Cosmos's Japanese name, Adams, is derived from that of George Adamski, who provided the famous flying saucer design after which Cosmos was modeled.
  • Early Japanese promotional material shows Cosmos with a blue body rather than his final green. The toy would see release in this coloration much, much, much later as Path Finder.
  • Concept art by Don Figueroa of a Classics version of Cosmos was shown at BotCon 2006, but the design was rejected because the higher-ups at Hasbro felt the alternate mode was too "boring". Many fans were pleasantly shocked they even considered making a new Cosmos. Another image of Figueroa's Cosmos design was included in the supplementary material in the Stormbringer trade paperback collection. Despite the rejection, it remained on the development team's "look into this" file should they revisit the Classics line in the future. True to their word, the design was moved to the Titanium Cybertron Heroes line of die-cast metal transforming toys, but with the cancellation of the Transformers portion of this franchise, the Cosmos design exists only as a resin prototype that was on display during the Hasbro tour portion of BotCon 2007.
  • Cosmos's character model would often be miscolored in certain scenes throughout season 2 of the Generation 1 cartoon. The model is supposed to feature yellow frames around the blue chest details in both modes, but in a lot of instances, the frames would be painted blue as well. Additionally, Cosmos's pre-final color scheme in "Grimlock's New Brain" (the same coloration used in the image at the top of this article) features the accurate yellow frames, but also features yellow and red squares, rather than the white and teal of the final model (comparisons to the right).
  • A Spotlight: Cosmos was announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2008 for release in 2009, with art by Andrew Griffith, to be written by Chris Mowry.[3][4][5] Later, though, Mowry announced on a (now defunct) IDW forum thread that the project was likely postponed or cancelled altogether, citing demotivation as a result of fan backlash towards IDW's output at the time.[6] Now, the cover art is the only piece of this we've officially seen... but in May 2009, the unofficial Transformers: Mosaic strip "I Am..." was released, created by Mowry and Griffith. How exactly this was related is unknown.[7]

  6. "If it's done, it will be made to fit into the "universe" as neatly as possible. But in all honesty, the reaction to things as of late with G1-related stories really has me not interested in doing this at all. There seems to be a "bash it before you see it" epidemic as of late, so I really have to ask myself "why bother?" I've said it before, I'm a lucky guy who has been given some incredible opportunities. But this isn't my main job, I don't NEED to do this. Recent events have really made me take a closer look at this. We all have a right to express our opinions, but the blatant disrespect and rudeness that people have—and continue to show—towards creators or the fans that speak up for them, is really discouraging. We'll see, though. I've got a few other things to finish up first, and Andrew and I do have a rough outline of where we want this to go. If it's going to happen, you'll hear it here first. But in our minds, Cosmos is absolutely clunky. We're not going to make him a secret agent or anything. On second thought...."—Chris Mowry, the IDW forums (dead link)
