Letters page

From Transformers Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

A common factor in Transformers comics is a section in the back pages devoted to answering fanmail. These letters are answered either by staff, or more interestingly, by various Transformers.

Contents

Marvel US

The letter column for the American Marvel comic was entitled Transmissions. It launched in issue #4. In issue #45, the Transmissions space was used to list names of players in the Bot Roster and Spot Shingo contests.

Marvel UK

Dreamwave G1

Under the title Declarations of War, Megatron responded to (and occasionally threatened) the fans.

Dreamwave Armada

While this was normally answered by a human, #18 was taken over by the dread Unicron himself!

Panini Armada

Initially, the letters were answered by Hot Shot under the title "Hot Shot's Hot Mail". This was replaced later by "Starscream's Hate Mail", which is infamous for severely misjudging how mean Starscream should be to the letter writers in its first installment.

IDW

Rather than answering reader's mail, the irregular IDW pages respond to specific posts on IDW's message board. The answers are done by the comic's editor (starting with Chris Ryall), who is drawn as a Transformer.

IDW's Beast Wars comic introduced the Maximal Mailbag in issue #2, with letters answered by the editor David Mariotte.

Titan Transformers Magazine

The letters page started out titled Mech Mail and was answered by humans. Following an open call for readers to say who they wanted to answer the mail, the letters page was retitled Star Screams as of issue #7, with letters responded to by the film incarnation of Starscream with varying degrees of venom and a smattering of references for older fans. Arcee's Soulmates, a Transformers romantic personals feature, ran in the letters for a while.

With the rebranding for Revenge of the Fallen, the strip was renamed Law and Disorder, and Barricade and Ironhide answered the letters. The two routinely bickered with each other and tried to score points. It was briefly reduced from four pages to two between issues #2 and #5.

For Dark of the Moon, the letters page was renamed to Mega-Mouth, with letters responded to by Megatron and Sideswipe. After four issues, the magazine was again rebranded for Transformers: Prime and though the letters page retained the name Mega-Mouth, it was answered by the Prime incarnations of Megatron and Arcee. For the last five issues of the magazine, following its rebranding for Age of Extinction, the letters page became Lockdown's Letterbox, with Lockdown and Crosshairs providing commentary on incoming mail.
