- Optimus Prime is an evil Autobot from the Shattered Glass Animated continuity family.
Optimus Prime has an intellect and ambition that cannot be constrained by strict structures, if his expulsion from the Elite Guard under disgraceful circumstances is any indication. So it was a cruel twist of fate that he ended up as the property of the authoritarian despot Isaac Sumdac. After years of being kept as a disembodied head in a lab and dissected for his technology, he now has limited freedom as one of Sumdac's enforcers, forever waiting for the opportunity to shake off his control collar and show his diminutive organic master who the real boss is.

Optimus Prime once served in the Elite Guard. His 'bot Sentinel once told him that subjugating organics could help overthrow the Autobots' antiquated Magnus. Optimus thought he was a piston. The AllSpark Almanac Addendum The Complete AllSpark Almanac Optimus was subsequently disgraced from the Elite Guard; instead, he led his own crew of renegades consisting of Bumblebee, The 'Cons Prowl, Ratchet, and Bulkhead. The AllSpark Almanac Addendum The Complete AllSpark Almanac The crew went on a quest for the AllSpark, but found that Megatron and his Decepticons had stumbled upon it first. The ensuing skirmish saw both teams crash land on Earth.
Prime was decapitated in the battle, and his head touched down separately like a meteor impact, attracting the attention of the young Isaac Sumdac. In subsequent years, Sumdac reverse engineered the technology in Prime's head to establish a ruthless military technocracy, conquering lower Michigan and ruling it from his Terrordrome in Detroit with an army of robots. The 'Cons At some point, Sumdac became personally acquainted with Prime, though whether this was when he was a disembodied head or later on is unclear. Sumdac found himself kept on his toes by the intellectual struggle for dominance between the two of them. The AllSpark Almanac Addendum The Complete AllSpark Almanac
Once Sumdac was able to, he reawakened Prime and the Autobots and outfitted them with control collars, The 'Cons giving him a "crack squad of extraterrestrial assassins". The AllSpark Almanac Addendum The Complete AllSpark Almanac The Autobots strained under being controlled by a human, The 'Cons but their mutual hatred for Sumdac united them. Transformers I.Q. #16 The Autobots' nominal mission was to defeat Megatron's Decepticons and capture the AllSpark; Sumdac considered a risk-benefit analysis of keeping the amoral Prime around if they succeeded. The AllSpark Almanac Addendum The Complete AllSpark Almanac At least Prime believed he would find satisfaction in destroying Megatron and his absurdly loyal lieutenant, Starscream. The Complete AllSpark Almanac Sari Sumdac, Prime's fellow enforcer and Isaac's technorganic daughter, had a low opinion of the Autobots. On at least one occasion, she doodled Prime's severed head next to the words "DIE DIE DIE".
Prime and the other four Autobots were captured by HYBRID and trapped in Soundwave's VR world, where they were subjected to videos of a purple technorganic dinosaur singing friendship songs in an attempt to turn them into goody-goods. Sari freed them with the help of some local hobobots, and they smashed Soundwave. The AllSpark Almanac Addendum The Complete AllSpark Almanac
Notes
- Optimus Prime's coloration is based on BotCon 2008's Shattered Glass Optimus Prime toy, of course.
- When the page from the Addendum featuring Sari's doodles was reprinted in the Complete Almanac, Prime's beard was missing. Weird!
