This one's for you, Craig.

Xbox is Microsoft's gaming brand, and the name of their line of video game consoles. The original Xbox was released in 2001, and while selling decent number, it lagged substantially behind its main competitor the PlayStation 2, probably because no Transformers games were ever released for it. Much more successful, however, was the Xbox 360, which launched in 2005 and was an overwhelming success, thanks to a strong game lineup and revolutionizing online console gaming with Xbox Live, becoming the highest-selling American-made console of all time. In 2013, Microsoft launched the Xbox One, but it initially struggled due to poor messaging and controversial decisions related to digital rights management and a shift towards general entertainment over video games, forcing them to spend most of the console generation clawing their way back to modest profit. The latest system is 2020's Xbox Series X (and its lower-end variant the Xbox Series S), which has done decently well thanks to its Xbox Game Pass subscription service at the cost of a bunch of studios getting unceremoniously shut down to help pay for other acquisitions whoa what who said that?

First party studios under the Xbox brand include Activision, Blizzard Entertainment, and Mojang Studios.

Core Gamer G1 Xbox360 Faceplates.jpg
  • Chrome Xbox 360 faceplate packs
Faceplate packs produced by Core Gamer that came in both Decepticon and Autobot varieties. The faceplate included with each pack is of a two part design. The first part is a plain white faceplate with chrome detailing. Then a clear plate snaps onto the white one. In between, the user can place one of 12 Autobot or Decepticon themed cardboard inserts. The faceplate features a power button with the logo of the given faction. Since the button is made of transparent plastic, the logo lights up when the system is turned on. The insert designs include 5 sets of character robot and alternate modes, the respective faction logo and 1 bonus secret collectible design.

Notes

  • When the Xbox 360 robot comes alive, it makes the 360's signature turning-on "shwooom!" noise.
  • Due to copyright reasons, the Xbox 360 is depicted as a fictional Y Box console in the IDW comics' follow up on the Revenge of the Fallen film.
  • At the 2015 San Diego Comic-Con, Microsoft held a sweepstakes to win one of 20 custom-painted Xbox One consoles with designs based on several upcoming games, including one based on Transformers: Devastation.[1]
  • Five custom-painted Bumblebee Xbox Ones and controllers were given away in a sweepstakes to promote the film in February 2019.[2]
  • While a small handful of Transformers games from the Activision era onwards have been localized for release in Japan, absolutely none of their Xbox versions have made the jump due to Microsoft's consoles having always sold significantly worse than their competition in the Japanese market.
