1. Checkers is played between two players on a checkered board with 12 checkers pieces each. 2. Players alternate turns moving pieces diagonally forward to capture the opponent's pieces by jumping over them. 3. The objective is to be the first player unable to move, usually by having all your pieces captured.

1. Checkers is played by two players. Each player begins the game with 12 colored discs.

(Typically, one set of pieces is black and the other red.) 2. The board consists of 6 s!"ares, alternating between #2 dark and #2 light s!"ares. $t is positioned so that each player has a light s!"are on the right side corner closest to him or her. #. Each player places his or her pieces on the 12 dark s!"ares closest to him or her. . %lack mo&es first. 'layers then alternate mo&es. (. )o&es are allowed only on the dark s!"ares, so pieces always mo&e diagonally. *ingle pieces are always limited to forward mo&es (toward the opponent). 6. + piece making a non,capt"ring mo&e (not in&ol&ing a -"mp) may mo&e only one s!"are. .. + piece making a capt"ring mo&e (a -"mp) leaps o&er one of the opponent/s pieces, landing in a straight diagonal line on the other side. 0nly one piece may be capt"red in a single -"mp1 howe&er, m"ltiple -"mps are allowed on a single t"rn. 2. 3hen a piece is capt"red, it is remo&ed from the board. 4. $f a player is able to make a capt"re, there is no option ,, the -"mp m"st be made. $f more than one capt"re is a&ailable, the player is free to choose whiche&er he or she prefers. 15. 3hen a piece reaches the f"rthest row from the player who controls that piece, it is crowned and becomes a king. 0ne of the pieces which had been capt"red is placed on top of the king so that it is twice as high as a single piece. 11. 6ings are limited to mo&ing diagonally, b"t may mo&e both forward and backward. (7emember that single pieces, i.e. non,kings, are always limited to forward mo&es.) 12. 6ings may combine -"mps in se&eral directions ,, forward and backward ,, on the same t"rn. *ingle pieces may shift direction diagonally d"ring a m"ltiple capt"re t"rn, b"t m"st always -"mp forward (toward the opponent). 1#. + player wins the game when the opponent cannot make a mo&e. $n most cases, this is beca"se all of the opponent/s pieces ha&e been capt"red, b"t it co"ld also be beca"se all of his pieces are blocked in.
