Chapter 10: Polygons: Polygons Symmetry Triangles Quadrilaterals

This document discusses different types of polygons. It defines polygons as shapes with three or more straight sides. It describes common polygons such as triangles, which have three sides, and quadrilaterals, which have four sides. The document discusses identifying the number of sides, vertices, and diagonals of different polygons. It also covers symmetry, types of triangles and quadrilaterals, and calculating the sum of interior angles in triangles and quadrilaterals.

(a) And (b) is a polygon
Types of polygons
A polygon is named after the number of sides it contains.
The following name are given to some common polygons.
Exercise
Name each of the following polygons.

Quadrilateral
Octagon
Triangle
Pentagon
Decagon
Determining the number of sides, vertices and
diagonals of a polygons.

A vertex is the point where two straight lines
meet.
A diagonal is a straight line joining two
vertices which are not adjacent to each other.

Symmetry
Is line / lines that can divide an object into two
equal parts.
Exercise
