Long-Term Potentiation (LTP) Is The Strengthening Of: Synapses Based On Recent Patterns of Activity. Produc

Neuroscience is the study of the brain and nervous system. This section discusses how different types of memories are stored in specific areas of the brain. Researchers have found that certain memories, like long-term memories, are kept in distinct areas of the brain, while other memories, like skills and procedures, remain intact even if parts of the brain are removed. The document also defines several key memory terms like consolidation, retrograde amnesia, anterograde amnesia, and infantile amnesia.

Just a recap:

Neuroscience is field of study that deals with the structure of the

brain and components of the nervous system
This part of the chapter deals with the neuroscience behind
memory
Researchers have found that certain memories are kept in specific
areas of the brain.
Each type of memory is found in different areas of the brain

long-term potentiation (LTP) is the strengthening of

synapses based on recent patterns of activity. produc e a
long-lasting increase in signal transmission between two neurons.
4E-BP2: a special protein in mammals necessary for all cellular
activity including the strengthening of the connections and
communications between neurons
Consolidation: the change that takes place in the structure and
functioning of neurons when a memory is formed.
H.M. or Henry Gustav Molaison
- His condition proved that specific memory is indeed found in
different parts of the brain because the procedural memory was
still kept intact despite the removal of the hippocampi and
temporal lobes.
Retrograde Amnesia: due to some injury the brain fails to
"save" the last memory that the person had before the injury.
- it was seen that when ECT or electroconvulsive therapy was
performed it created retrograde amnesia proving that when
consolidation is interrupted, memories are lost
Anterograde Amnesia: loss of memory from the point of injury
forward. cannot retain new information. results in repetitiveness
Infantile Amnesia: difficulty retrieving early memories.
perceived as watching yourself in a movie --> you can't recall
breastfeeding from your mom or the day when you first learned

how to walk.
Autobiographical Memory: develops when a child can talk
about shared memories eventually developing one's personal life
story.
