Chapter 7

The summer training at Shriram Pistons & Rings Ltd. provided the author with valuable practical experience in industrial production processes. They gained new insights into the real working conditions of industry. The training included direct involvement in tasks as well as observation and interaction, helping the author understand various manufacturing processes used to make pistons. While the project of calculating cycle times was challenging, the overall experience exposed the author to the work environment and increased their confidence for future employment.

Chapter 7

Conclusion

Summer training in Shriram Pistons & Rings Ltd. really helped me to familiarize myself to the practical knowledge of industrial production and processes. T h e w h o l e training period was very interesting, instructive and challenging. Through this training I was able to gain new insights and more comprehensive understanding about the real industry working condition and practice. I got the idea of working of automatic CNC machines, Inspection techniques and different processes used in the manufacturing of piston used in Aluminium foundry and piston plant. All of this valuable experience and knowledge that I have gained were not only acquired through the direct involvement in task given but also through other aspect of the training such as work observation, interaction with operators, supervisor and other peoples involved in the process. The project given to me was challenging because it is very difficult to calculate the cycle time if an operator knows that somebody is calculating time taken by him in loading / unloading because he can increase the time by 3-4 seconds which we cant realize. And even a small change in cycle time can increase the productivity in great extent. It was a good idea and good chance to expose to the work environment that we will have to face and practice after we graduate. As a result of the training now I am more confident to enter the employment world and build my future career.
