Special Announcement Informal Ministerial Round Table 11.00 13.00 15.00 18.00 Plenary 2, QNCC "Ambition, support and delivery, now and in the future"
The overarching question for the Informal Ministerial Round Table is: "How can Mitigation, Adaptation and Means of Implementation be strengthened now and in the future?" The discussion will offer the opportunity for high-level informal reflections and for a constructive exchange of views on issues. The participation will be open to all interested Parties. The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. BAN Ki-moon, will provide a keynote address at the beginning of the round table to stimulate discussion. To support the open exchange of views H.E. Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Attiyah has invited H.E. Mme. Delphine Batho (France) and H.E. Herman Humberto Rosa Chvez (El Salvador) to co-facilitate the dialogue during the morning of the round table. The President has further invited H.E. Ms. Maxine McClean (Barbados) and H.E. Mr. Edward Davey (United Kingdom) to co-facilitate the dialogue during the afternoon of the round table. All Ministers and Heads of Delegation are encouraged to attend and contribute actively to this open dialogue. Significant progress has been made at the past sessions of the COP regarding the collective understanding of action and the challenges faced by Parties in mitigation and adaptation. The round table will provide an opportunity for Ministers to further elaborate on challenges and successes in the implementation of associated pledges, actions and plans and will inform Parties of the possibilities and potential for further enhancement of actions. While action happens at the national level, it is acknowledged that the enabling environment created through enhanced cooperative action, inspired by and consistent with the objective and principles of the Convention, forms the most solid foundation for releasing the full potential of such actions. Ministers will be invited to discuss the following two questions: - How are mitigation and adaptation actions being implemented and how can these be enhanced now and in the future including by and beyond 2015? - What forms of cooperation would enable and stimulate low-emission and climate resilience in a manner which enables continuous progress towards sustainable economic and social development? A specific badge is required to attend this event. The badges for Parties, IGOs and UN organizations can be collected at the Information Desk on level 1 (next to the spider) by an authorized member of the delegation. Focal points of NGO constituencies can collect their badge from the CAS office on the ground floor of the south building. Four badges per Party, two per IGO and UN observers and ten per NGO constituency will be made available. Badges will be available from 17.30 today.
