About the Mechanical Engineering Department

Mechanical engineering is one of the oldest and broadest engineering disciplines that
applies the principles of engineering, physics and materials science for analysis,
design, manufacturing and maintenance of mechanical systems. The Department of
mechanical engineering was established with an undergraduate programme in 2011. The
department has advanced laboratories with modern and state-of-the-art equipment, well
furnished seminar hall and a library with a collection of various journals, magazines and
books. The department also maintains a close liaison with a number of industries through
faculty research and collaborative projects.
Objectives
To develop the department into a centre of academic excellence and research with
emphasis on quality teaching & learning process and maintain national prominence.
To provide opportunities for students to learn fundamental and advanced technologies
with sufficient practical knowledge to meet the current and emerging needs of the
society.
To achieve and sustain the maximum accreditation from certifying bodies like NBA,
NAAC, ISO, etc.
To demonstrate multidisciplinary and interpersonal skills with ethical responsibility and
disseminate the research results through publications, presentations, projects and
thesis.
To improve the teaching and learning process for the faculty by continuously updating
their knowledge and pursue research activities within the Department.

Undergraduate Programme B. Tech. (Mech.)
The B. Tech - Mech. degree programme is designed to achieve a balance between depth of
knowledge acquired through specialization and breadth of knowledge gained through
exploration. The undergraduate degree programme provides a comprehensive foundation in
the core topics of mechanical engineering coupled with an area of specialization relevant to
emerging technological challenges. The curriculum has been designed to create
professional mechanical engineers, who can serve in the fields of design, manufacturing,
materials, plant engineering and maintenance, pressure vessels and piping, heating,
ventilation and air-conditioning, marketing and other related fields.

The department has dedicated faculty with a team of qualified doctorates and post
graduates with vast academic, industrial and research experience. The department has
expertise in the research areas like bio-fuels, hybrid electric vehicles, composite materials,
renewable energy technologies, etc. Faculty members are continually publishing the results
of their research work in international/national journals and conferences.

Research and Consultancy
The department strives to enhance the knowledge of the faculty by continuously
undertaking/organizing research programmes in the form of funded projects, conferences,
seminars, workshops, training, guest lectures, symposiums, etc. The department aims at
the innovative and technological development through academic and research collaboration
between the management and industries and the Government funding agencies to meet the
current as well as futuristic needs of the industry and Society.
Publications
The faculty of the department has published 81 research papers in reputed
national/international journals and 76 technical papers in various national/international
conferences.

The Department is well equipped with laboratories like Engineering Workshop, Mechanics
of Solids, Fluid Mechanics, Production Technology, Metallurgy, Thermal Engineering,
Machine Tools, Metrology, Instrumentation, CAD/CAM and Heat Transfer.
Major events and achievements
The department continuously organizes training programmes for the faculty and students
such as conferences, seminars, workshops, guest lectures, symposiums, etc. The ISTE
students chapter also stands out with its guest lectures by eminent personalities from
academia and industry.
Industrial Connection
The Department maintains a close liaison with a number of Industries through faculty
research and collaborative projects. In addition, frequent industrial visits to renowned
industries are one of the key activities of the Department.





Careers Scope for employment
Mechanical engineers work in a wide range of industries, including automotive, aerospace,
chemical, computer, electronic, industrial machinery, manufacturing, mining,
oceanographic, petroleum, pharmaceutical, power, printing, publishing and textile. More
than half of the jobs were in manufacturing mostly in machinery, transportation equipment,
computer and electronic products and fabricated metal products in manufacturing
industries. Also, emerging technologies in biotechnology, materials science, and
nanotechnology will create new job opportunities for mechanical engineers. Additional
opportunities for mechanical engineers will arise because a degree in mechanical
engineering often can be applied in other engineering specialties.

and placements, certificate courses in advanced areas are conducted in every semester,
