Early History of Korea
Korea had been occupied by a foreign nation and became a satellite of one foreign
region after another.
Its history was traced form the Paleolithic period about 500,000 years ago.
It was believed that its history began in 2333 BCE.
King Tangun-established the first kingdom called Choson, which means Land of
the Morning Calm.
THE THREE KINGDOMS OF KOREA
The three kingdoms were related ethnically and linguistically.
They even adapted Confucian ethics and Buddhist faith.
1. KOGURYO (GOGURYEO)
It was the first to mature into a kingdom along the River Yalu.
They conquered neighboring tribes one after another and finally drove the Chinese out
of Hangawa in 313 CE and expanded their territory deep in Manchuria.
2. PAEKCHE (BAEKJE)
It was founded by the group of refugees who went to south; founded at the southern
part of the Han-gang River in the vicinity of the present Seoul.
The Paekche people were peace-loving.
They kept on moving south to avoid the threats of Koguryeo.
3. SILLA
The unification of North Korea with South Korea under a single government.
Wang Kien-descendant from Koguryo who led the revolution in North Korea and later
on against Silla of
the South.
-he made himself the king of Korai-the former name of North Korea.
-he united Korea into a single nation, called Koryo-where the name Korea
was derived.
