Transportation Tuesday

Certification Levels
Associate Level:
Had a basic introductory knowledge of technology and equipment
Classroom instruction consist of half day basic theory, equipment and one of
following: Leak Detection, Electrical Inspection, or structure borne ultrasound.
Can perform inspection and identify location and condition.
Can perform historic and comparative trending.
Should conduct inspections under guidance of certified personnel at the level
acceptable by the employer.
Level 1:
Had completed 5 day approved course on ultrasound.
Pass general, specific and practical test with score of 80% or more.
Hearing meeting a standard pure tone audiometery average 25 dBHL or lower.
Initial at least 3 months field experience.
Continued documentation of ultrasonic practice as evidence of continued familiarity
of the equipment.
Perform calibration, test and evaluation for determining acceptance or rejection of
tested items in accordance to specific written instruction.
Record test results but have no authority to sign report for the purpose of signifying
analysis of indication during ultrasonic inspection.
Receive instruction or supervision from Level III or designee.
Transportation Tuesday

Level II:
Individual who has completed the requirements of level 1
Meet the educational and experience requirements for level II
Be familiar with the scope and limitation of airborne/ structure borne
ultrasonic inspection.
Set-up and calibrate equipment.
Interpret and evaluate results with respect to applicable codes, standards
and specifications.
Organize and report results of airborne/ structure borne ultrasonic inspection.
Train and guide Level 1 and Associate personnel as assigned, when
designated by Level II certified in airborne/ structure borne ultrasonic.
Level III:

Individual who has completed the requirements of level II


Meet the educational and experience requirements for level III
Be responsible for airborne/ structure borne ultrasonic inspection
operation to which assigned and for which certified.
Established methods and test techniques and authorize use of all ultrasonic
inspection procedures to be used on behalf of the employer by
Associates, Level 1 and Level II personnel.
Interpret test results in terms of applicable codes, standards, specifications
and procedures.
Be sufficiently familiar with subject test materials and equipment to establish techniques
and assist in establishing acceptance criteria when none are available.
