Long ago, there lived a sphinx in the city of Thabes, in Greece who had the head of
a woman, the body of a lion and the wings of a big bird.
It sat just outside of the city and would ask the passersby to answer her riddle.

Many many lost their lives for not answering the difficult riddle. Then came
Oedipus a clever and a brave-man who wanted to answer the sphinx.
The sphinx asked him that what walks on four legs in the morning, or two legs
and noon and on three legs in the evening? the answer is MAN said clever Oedipus. As
a child walks on two legs, as a man, he walks on two legs, As an old man, he walks with
the help of a stick. Thats right, shouted the sphinx and angrily jumped of the maintain
and died. The people of Thabes were so thankful that they made Oedipus their king.
