Geotechnical Engineering - 1

This document outlines the units of study for a geotechnical engineering course. Unit 1 covers an introduction to geotechnical problems and engineering geology of soils. Unit 2 discusses stress within soils, effective stress principle, soil-water systems, seepage, flow, permeability, and filters. Unit 3 covers Mohr failure theory, shear strength of soils, drained and undrained tests, and an introduction to geo-synthetics. Unit 4 discusses soil compaction, compressibility, consolidation, and determination of coefficients. Unit 5 examines slope stability and limit equilibrium methods for analyzing slopes. References for further reading on topics like soil mechanics, geotechnical engineering, geosynthetics, and triaxial testing are also provided.
