Paramount Boutique Hotel, Shanghai


Paramount Boutique Hotel in Shanghai is located at the center of Jingan district next
to the famous Jing An temple and the Paramount Ballroom, a historical nightclub and
dance hall which was a major entertainment thoroughfare and a famous meeting
place for the wealthy elite of Shanghai society in the 1930s.
In 2007, Jingan district government commissioned the renovation of this hotel into a
boutique hotel to celebrate the Shanghai EXPO 2008. SLA Shanghai office was
awarded this challenge to refurbish a brand new contemporary boutique hotel but
still maintaining the "Haipai" Spirit; a classical Shanghai Artdeco style for this historical
building.
This boutique hotel has 100 guest rooms with 15 types including standard room,
deluxe room, suites, corner suite and Presidential suite. The hotel facilities include a
western restaurant, conference room, gymnasium and "Shanghai 30s hair salon.

This building has a very narrow ground floor lobby, therefore we elevated their Reception Lobby to 12th floor; with this
approved by the Client, we wanted to give the entrance level Lobby an impressive focal point and to follow through the
design language through the whole hotel. The main back-drop is a grand stone wall which maintained the art deco style
motif where the center part of this stone wall is decorated with art deco design copper totem combining 100 different
patterns used by historical buildings in Bund area to represent the Chinese meaning of the hotel name-"Bai Le Men", means
100 beautiful doors".
