Sierra Nevada College Lesson Plan: Whitney Dumville Danielle Gallagher Algebra II Ttusd Forest Charter Michael Lauletta

Michael Lauletta Teacher Candidate: Whitney Dumville Lesson: Solving Rational Equations Reflection: The lesson went well overall. Students were engaged during the review and practice portions. I noticed that some students still struggled with factoring polynomials, so I may need to spend more time on that skill in the future. The students seemed to grasp evaluating rational expressions with monomial denominators, but got tripped up when polynomials were introduced. I will need to provide more examples of that process. When introducing the "work" concept, I noticed blank stares from a few students. I should have taken more time to connect it to a real world example before jumping into the worksheet. The group

2. Students will be able to apply this idea to real life situations

DOK 3
related to work.

Connections to past learning or experience, building background

Students will review factor and cross multiply simple polynomials

Essential Vocabulary Definitions

Factoring Break apart

Cross multiplying Butterfly Numerator(opposite denominator) = numerator (opposite

denominator)

Work Work = rate x time

Ex: 1 homework page/ hour for 4 hours, how much work did I get
done?
Strategy for teaching new

life situations related to work. have students teach other
students.
Assessment through
discourse and observation
as well as completing
number 15 in their journal

Closure : specific activity to review content

Review/Celebration of Learning: What did we learn today? How is it different to add/ subtract vs 3 min
