1-6 Multiplying and Dividing Real Numbers

You need to remember two simple rules when multiplying or dividing real
numbers.
1. The product or quotient of two numbers with the same sign is positive.

2. The product or quotient of two numbers with different signs is negative.

What is the product 6(30)?

6(30) = 180 6 and 30 have the same sign so the product is positive.

What is the quotient 72 (6)?

72 (6) = 12 72 and 6 have different signs so the quotient is negative.
