Well Sections in *Petrel Part 3

This is the third and final installment in a series of TIPS&TRICKS about Well Sections in Petrel 2015.
This TIPS&TRICKS will explore how to:
Add surfaces from the Input pane to the background
Display major and minor grid lines in the background
Find a particular well in a Well section containing many wells

Background Surfaces
Add surfaces from the Input pane to the background

1. Create or activate a Well Section. Display what you want (logs, tops, etc.)
2. Open the Template of the Well Section.

3. Right-click on Background and choose Surface Group.


4. Highlight the Surfaces in the Input pane to use.
5. On the Definition tab, use the Blue arrow to enter them into the box.
6. Click OK.

7. The surfaces are added to the background of the Well Section.


8. Add fault surfaces or other objects.

Note: One Surface group contains structure surfaces and the other contains fault surfaces.

Major and Minor Grid Lines
Posted on the background of a Well Section when background elements are posted. Grid lines are
independent of the Template.

1. Create or activate a Well Section. Display what you want (logs, tops, etc.)

2. Post something in the background between the wells.

3. Open the Settings of the Well Section window. Go to the Grid lines tab.
4. Check the box in front of Draw horizontal major lines.
5. Enter any parameters.
6. Check the box in front of Draw horizontal minor lines.
7. Enter any paramenters.
8. Click OK.

9. The grid lines are added to the background of the Well Section.
10. Tweak parameters as necessary.

Find a Well
Finds a particular well in a Well section containing many wells

1. Create or activate a Well Section that contains many wells.


2. Zoom in to a few wells.

3. If you need to find a certain well, right-click on the well in the Input pane, and choose Find in
active well section.
4. The Well Section moves to find the well of interest.
