GUIDELINES FOR SUMMER INTERNSHIP


(PROBABLE DATES 1st WEEK OF JUNE TO 2ND WEEK OF JULY)

II Semester MBA (Collaborative program- PRIST) students engaged in the Summer Internship
are required to note the following points :

1. Students are expected to strictly adhere to the disciplinary and ethical codes of behaviour
in practice at the company where they are doing internship.
2. Students should exhibit patience and tolerance and behave cordially with the people they
encounter at the work place.
3. All the students obtain a certificate of “Satisfactory work completion” from their supervisors
and submit the same to the college along with their report.
4. Every student is required to prepare a report at the end of the internship programme and
submit the same to the institute within two weeks of rejoining the II year.
5. Summer training report should contain the following:
a. Profile of the Company.
b. A study of the organization
c. A brief report of the activities that the student has taken up in the company during the
training phase.
d. A details suggestion of the outline has been enclosed for reference
6. Students should contact the Dean or their concerned guides or coordinator for any help or
guidance if they encounter any difficulty at the work place.
7. Students are required to contact the Faculty guides in finalizing the report.
8. Guidelines for preparing the Summer Internship report are attached. The candidates are
required to adhere to the format and contends as has suggested in this document

ORGANISATIONAL STUDY

i) Sectoral Analysis- of the Internship company


ii) About the company- vision, mission, products/services offered, the
Student should also understand the position of the company vis-à-vis the
industry in which the company is operating.

The following aspects about the company may be studied:

Marketing: Product portfolio, Distribution network, Sales force, Pricing,


Promotion strategies, Customer service, Market structure, Market share,
Competition, Measurement metrics.
Human Resources: Senior Management, Departments and Functions, Staff
strength, Recruitment, Training and Development, Appraisal and Retention practices
etc. Retention issues, Measurement metrics.
Operations: Functions and Processes
Finance: Capital structure, financial ratios, Performance metrics etc.
Any other relevant function Facilities, Measurement metrics

iii) Organizational Hierarchy- who’s who, reporting structure, departments


and design. The student intern should know and prepare a report on (i) the
immediate operations team including the company guide and supervisors, (ii)
departmental heads at the Company and (iii) the Chief Executive Officer/the
Managing Director and the other top management team members of the
company.

iv) The Customers


During the initial period of the internship, the Student Intern should
understand the products of the company and the customer profile. Effort should be
made on various aspects of understanding the customers, their segmentation, product
positioning, buying pattern etc.

V) Competitors

A Student Intern is also expected to understand the competitors for the products
Marketed by the Company Technology being used Student intern should focus on the
technology platforms and specific ERP packages relevant for the Company. it is
important to get insights into the pre and post-technology productivity of people,
customer service, grievance redressed, etc.

Vi) Environment:
Macro and micro the national and international environment
which has an influence on the Company’s performance also needs to be studied.

Vii) SWOT Analysis (of the Internship Company)


A student Intern is expected to study the economic environment in which the Company
is operating, understand its progress in the past and based on the same, Analyze the strengths,
weaknesses, opportunities and threats to the company. The SWOT analysis should provide
insights into the company’s future prospects and the strategic directions

PART –B
PROJECT REPORT (ON ANY CRITICAL AREA IN THE INTERNSHIP
COMPANY) SHOULD BE AS FOLLOWS:

I) Executive Summary or Abstract –over all summary of the project


II) Introduction and Background – reason for choosing the topic, how research is going
to be beneficial for the organization
III) Research Design – Title of the research topic, Aim of the project, Scope of the study
Statement of the problem, objectives of research problem, methodology, sample
design, sample size, Data collection, Questionnaire, Statistical tools used for analysis,
Hypothesis if any, limitation of the study, Abbreviation, Limitations of the study
IV) Analysis and interpretation of Data – Tables, interpretations, Graphs and
Statistical Analysis
V) Findings and Conclusions – ( conclusions should be based purely on Research
findings )
VI) Recommendations & Suggestions ( suggestions to solve the problems)
