1. Scaffold erection supervised by a competent employee.
2. Sills are at least 38 mm x 235 mm (2 inches x 10 inches) and are
continuous under at least two legs and extend a minimum of 0.30 m (1.0 foot)
beyond bearing point.
3. Base plates and screw jacks firmly supported on all legs (mud sills used
where required).
4. Base plates are centered on sills and secured firmly using 4 adequately
sized screws or spikes.
5. Hard and soil surfaces on which the scaffold is erected are in good shape.
6. Scaffold is square, straight and plumb in all directions. (Check with a level.)
7. All end, face and plan bracing installed as recommended by manufacturer.
8. Screw jacks are extended less than 0.3 m (1.0 foot) and luck nuts are tight.
9. Scaffold has all fittings and gear, including base plates or wheels, installed
as required by the manufacturer’s instructions.
10. No tubes or members are over-extended and creating a hazard condition.
11. Scaffold has all required connecting devices between frames.
12. Gravity pins or pig tails, thumb screws, lock arms, coupling pins, brackets,
clamps, wedges and all other components are in place tight and secure.
13. Scaffolding has been tied into a building or other structure every 4.6 m
(15.0 ft.) vertically and 6.4 m (21.0 ft.) horizontally.
14. Handrails are securely installed at the height of 1.0 m ± 75 mm (39 in ± 3
in) with a mid-rail securely fastened to the scaffold midway between the top rail
and the platform;
15. The toe board is securely fastened to scaffold and extends to a height of
not less than 90.0mm (3.5 inches) from the platform level.

16. Ladders being used for scaffold access are secure and extend at least 90
cm (3 ft.) above the landing.
17. Stair systems being used are secured in place.
18. Ladder cages are in use where a ladder height exceeds 3.0 m (10 ft). as
measured from grade, rest platform, or work platform to the elevation of the
next rest platform or work. See Clause 5.13.2 of the CSA standard.
19. Scaffold planks are stamped No. 1 or Select Structural S-P-F (Spruce-
Pine-Fir) grade.
20. Sawn lumber platforms are restrained against horizontal and vertical
movement.
21. Manufactured platform planks are secured against horizontal and vertical
movement by fully planking the space between standards or as recommended
by the manufacturer.
22. Max. span of planking for sawn lumber is 2.3 m (7 ft.) for heavy duty and
3.1 m (10 ft.) for light duty.
23. All sawn lumber platform planks are the same length.
24. All sawn lumber platform planks are free of all defects.
25. Gin wheels or separate rope lines are in place for raising or lowering tools,
equipment and materials to the working platform.
26. Minimum clearance has been maintained from live electrical conductors.
27. Warning devices or signs have been provided if the scaffold is erected
over or near walkways or roadways.
28. No ladder or other item is being used to extend the working height of a
platform.
29. No. 1 grade or Select Structural Spruce-Pine-Fir (S-P-F) grade platform
planks must be sized 51 mm (2 in.) thick and 254 mm (10.0 in.) wide.
30. No. 2 grade or better must be sized no smaller than 38 mm thick and
235 mm wide rough sawn lumber, and are doubled up and fastened one on
top of the other.
31. There is no obvious damage to frames, braces, planks, sills, screw jacks or
any other scaffold components.
32. Overhead protection from falling objects has been installed where
necessary.

33. Fall protection is being used above 3.0 m (10 ft.) as required.
34. Manufactures scaffold information or engineering drawings are available
depending on type and height of scaffold.
35. Sawn lumber platform planks extend at least 152 mm (6.0 in.) but not more
than 304 mm (12 in.) beyond support.
36. Gaps between the scaffold platform and a building or other structure is not
greater than 304 mm (12 in.).
37. Scaffolds mounted on castors or wheels have working brakes.
38. Brakes are applied when rolling scaffolds are in use.
