Workshop Technology Lab Report (20140507)

The mechanical lab contains various machines for welding, grinding, drilling, milling, and turning that were found to be in working condition through a visual inspection, except for one drilling machine and one power hacksaw that need repair. There is also plumbing equipment but no air conditioning equipment. Present Condition Of Mechanical Lab

From the visual inspection on 2072/01/23 we found following things in our mechanical lab.

Mechanical Lab

Welding Equipment

There are 5 no of arc welding apparatus fitted with 8 hose to direct the fume/ smoke outside. All
the apparatus are found to be in working condition. Safety devices like shield, gloves and glasses
are available. Arc rod need to be bought.

For gas welding, welding torch are available. Gas need to buy.

Bench Vice

There are total 13 bench vices in lab, all are found to be in working condition.

Grinding Machine

There are 2 grinding machines in lab which are found to be in working condition.

Drilling Machine

There is one drilling machine which is not in working condition. It needs to be repair.

Power Hacksaw

There are 2 power hack saw but only one is found to be in working condition. One needs to be
repair.

Milling Machine

There are total 4 milling machines in lab. One of them is CNC milling machine which has not
been in use till now. Its condition is unknown. Rests of 3 machines are found to be in operating
condition.

Lathe Machine

There are total 4 lathe machines in lab which were found to be in working condition.

Shaper Machine

There are total 2 shaper machines in lab which were found to be in working condition.
Tool bit and consumables

There are few tool bits in lab and more need to be bought.

Machines were found to be in either working or not working condition just on the basis of visual
inspection and on past records given by Sita Ram Sir. We were unable to operate during our
inspection because of power cut. In order to know the present condition of all machines we need
to call an operator. After knowing the operating condition of all machines it can be used for
training purpose and if it is not in working condition it needs to be repair accordingly.

Plumbing and Sanitation

There are few simple equipment regarding plumbing of G.I. pipe. There are some pipe fittings
found in lab. Three months training has already been conducted to Upper Tamakoshi and NEA
employee under supervision of Sita Ram sir. With more advanced level plumbing training for
PVC pipe can be continued to NEA employee. Valve maintenance training can also be very
fruitful in operation maintenance program.

Air Conditioning (A/C)

There is not any equipment regarding A/C training. A/C training can be given in Global
Technical Institute situated in premises of Lalitpur Valley College, Jawulakhel Lalitpur as done
in past days.

Recommendation

Mechanical Lab can also be given to private institute in order to conduct their practical classes
when there are no training program, which can be beneficial to training centre and machine will
also be in continuous operating condition.

One complete A/C system needs to be established here. If A/C training can be conducted here, it
will be more fruitful along with the utilization of manpower and resources.
