Day 2

1) The lesson plan is for a 12th grade statistics and probability class calculating the probabilities of Type I and Type II errors. 2) Key concepts include the null and alternative hypotheses, level of significance, rejection region, and types of errors in hypothesis testing. 3) Students will calculate the probabilities of Type I and II errors given a normal random variable with a specified mean and variance through an activity and oral recitation.

Methodology
Introductory Activity Classroom Routine!
Activity Oral Review:
Questions:
How to find a sensible statistical procedure to test if Ho or Ha is
true?
Answer: A sensible statistical procedure is to make the probability of making a wrong decision as small as
possible.
Analysis ⇒ A sensible statistical procedure should result in small chance of making both type I and type II errors.

However, it is impossible to have as small chance of making both types of errors simultaneously. The larger the
chance of making a Type I error is, the smaller the chance of making a Type II error is.

Let
α be the probability of making a Type I error.
𝛽 be the probability of making a Type II error.
⇒ The larger α is, the smaller 𝛽 is.
Abstraction

Application ACTIVITY 1 (By Group)

The students are to answer the given and after they are to compare their answers to another group paired to
them.

1. Let x be the normal random variable with the mean 𝜇 and variance 4. Calculate the probabilities of
making a type I and II errors.
Solution.
Assessment Oral Recitation:

What are the steps in calculating the probability of getting a Type I error?

What are the steps in calculating the probability of getting a Type II error?
Assignment Study on types of error!
