1st quarter – prelim

UNIT 1: RHYTHM

Music exists in time. The time factor in music is called rhythm. Rhythm is the

flow of movement.

LESSON 1: NOTES AND RESTS

MUSIC is full of symbols. One of the most important parts of music is learning the

different notes and rests.

NOTE is a musical symbol that represents sound.

REST is a musical symbol that represents silence.

STAFF is where the notes and rests are written.

It composed of 5 vertical lines.

CLEF is a sign that is put at the beginning of a line

Of notation.

PITCH refers to the highness and lowness of sound

LESSON 2: METERS

Rhythm in music is the element that organizes movement in time. It refers to the

length, or duration of individual notes and rests. The basic unit to measure in music is

beat. Beat is the pulse of music. It can be fast, moderate, or slow.

ACCENT SYMBOL (>) is placed on top of the note to signify a strong beat.

METER is a repetitive arrangement of strong and weak pulses or beats.

DUPLE METER is the simplest and most common of all meters with two beats to a

measure. A strong beat followed by weak beat.

TRIPLE METER consists of three beats to measure- one string beat and two weak beats.

QUADRUPLE METER consists of four beat to measure, with primary accent on the first

beat and a secondary accent in the third beat ( - )

LESSON 3: RHYTHM PATTERN

Rhythm are organized into patterns of notes and rests; we call this rhythmic pattern.

DURATION is the length of time of a note and rest.

BAR LINES divide group of notes into measure.

LESSON 4: CONDUCTING

Rhythm can be expressed through meters and rhythmic patterns. Another possible way

is through conducting.

CONDUCTING is more than waving your arms. It is the art of directing a musical

performance by way of visible gestures.

The gestures are called BEAT PATTERNS.

Not all songs begin with regular measure. Some musical pieces begin in second or third beat. This is

called BROKEN MEASURE.

LESSON 1: LINES

it is a set if points extending endlessly in both directions.

COMMON SINGLE LINES

STRAIGHT/HORIZONTAL LINE – gives a feeling of peace and stillness.

DIAGONAL LINE – used to create feelings of movement.

DASHED/DOTTED LINE – it implies some torm of supervisory and responsibility.

VERTICAL LINE – they are strong and rigid. They suggest stability, especially when ticker.

ZIGZAG LINE – it creates excitement and intense movement.

SPIRAL LINE – is a curve that circles around a fixed center point at a continuously increasing or

decreasing distance from the point.

LESSON 2: SHAPE, COLOR, and TEXTURE

SHAPE – is an element of art that is two-dimensional, flat, or limited to height and width.

COLOR – is an element of art made up of three properties: hue, value, and intensity.

Primary – red, yellow, and blue

- Colors that can be combined to make useful range of colors

Secondary – orange, green and violet

- Combination of primary

Tertiary – combination of primary and secondary

TEXTURE – is an element of art that refers to the way things feel or look if they touch.

Types of texture

TACTILE – a real texture is one you can actually feel with your hand.

LESSON 3: CONTRAST AND EMPHASIS

CONTRAST – element of art that refers to the arrangement of opposite elements.

EMPHASIS – an area within the artwork that draws attention and becomes a focal point.

ACTIVITY

Paste something at the center of the frame to describe contrast ad emphasis.

LESSON 4: DRAWING

DRAWING - is a form of visual art in which a person uses various drawing instrument to mark a paper.

LOGO – is a sign, symbol, trademark, or badge which conveys the identity or ownership of a product or

CHARTOON CHARACTER – is a fictional character depicted in an animated film or comic strip.

UNIT 1: Assessment of Physical

Activities and Fitness

LESSON 1: Review of the health-related Components of Fitness

Flexibility, endurance, muscular strength, body composition and cardiovascular

function are the important health-related components of fitness.

FLEXIBILITY is the ability to stretch or extend and bend parts of the body.

ENDURANCE is the ability to undergo repetitive exercises or prolonged exercises.

STRENGTH is the ability to exert effort using the muscles of the body.

BODY COMPOSITION refers to the amount of fats stored in the body.

CARDIOVASCULAR FUNCTION refers to the healthy blood circulating the body and the

muscles being used during exercise or physical activity.

Activity 1

Do the following exercise and check your pulse rate.

1. Check your pulse in normal body rate.

2. Jog in place for 5minutes.

3. Standing long jump.

LESSON 2: AEROBICS

AEROBICS is a form of physical exercise that combines rhythmic aerobics exercise

with stretching and strength bearing exercises with the goal of improving the

elements of fitness like flexibility, muscular strength, and cardiovascular fitness.

it is normally accompanied by appropriate music.

It is energy generating, and may be done from low to high levels of

performance.

Activity 1

Make a dance step with accompanied by appropriate music. Apply the aerobic exercise.

LESSON 3: TARGET GAMES

TARGET GAMES is a fun game for children. It involves judging distance and speed, hand-

eye coordination, and allow players to set to their own strategies.

It improves the concentration level of every player.

UNIT 1: PERSONAL HEALTH

PERSONAL HEALTH refers to the health status of every person. It Is affected by each individual

personalities and its school, home and work circumstances.

LESSON 1: PERSONAL HEALTH ISSUES AND CONCERNS

a. HEIGHT AND WEIGHT

It is always best to monitor one’s height and weight.

Kids develop differently from one another. Some are taller and heavier than others, so

the right height and weight is hard to determine.

BMI (BODY MASS INDEX) – is used to estimate the body fat of a person based on his/her weight,

height, age, and sex.

BMI is measured by dividing body weight in kilograms by the square of height in meters.

BMI is classified according to the following:

Underweight BMI<18.5/kgm²

Normal Weight BMI=18.5 to 24.9/kgm²

Overweight BMI=25 to 30/kgm²

Obese BMI>30/kgm²

Underweight – weighs less than the healthy range for his/her height, sex and age

Normal Weight – the BMI is within the range for his/her height, sex and age

Overweight – weighs more than the healthy range for his/her height, sex and age

Obese – weighs more than the healthy range for his/her height, sex and age

b. HEARING

Ears is the organ of hearing. It should be kept clean to ensure good hearing and to

prevent infection or hearing loss.

Cerumen is produced by the ear canal to moisturize and protect the ear.

Audiologist is the health care professional trained to diagnose hearing problem.

Audiometer is used to determine hearing sensitivity at different frequencies of person.

c. VISON

Eyes is the organ of hearing

Snellen Chart is used to determine the loss of visual acuity or loss of

sharpness of sight.

Optometrists are doctors who specialize in a vision care.

Visual defects:

MYOPIA – nearsightedness

HYPEROPIA – farsightedness

ASTIGMATISM – an eye condition wherein the corner or the lens has

imperfect curvature.

d. SKIN, HAIR and NAILS

Skin is the largest organ of the body

Hair protect the covering of the skin

Nails protect the sensitive tips of fingers and toes.

e. ORAL or DENTAL CONCERNS

It is always best to observe proper oral hygiene to keep the mouth healthy

and free from any disease-causing bacteria.

ORAL PROBLEMS:

HALITOSIS is another name for bad breath

GINGIVITIS is an inflammation of the gum tissues caused by plague or tartar

PRODENTITIS can damage the gum tissues and bones in the mouth.

F. POSTURE

It is the ability of the body to sustain its position in space against external forces.

POSTURAL DEFECTS:

SCOLIOSIS is shown on the sideways curve of the spine. It may be S or C curve,

LORDOSIS also known as “swayback.”

KYPHOSIS also known as “hunchback/kuba.”

LESSON 2: PREVENTION AND MANAGEMENT

OF PERSONAL HEALTH ISSUES AND CONCERNS

HEALTH IS WEALTH. This is true because no material wealth can replace the value

of healthy mind and body.

Here are some self-management skills that you must develop:

WEIGHT indicates the present nutritional status of a person.

B. VISION TEST

Snellen Chart is used to determine the loss of visual acuity or loss of sharpness of

sight.

C. HEARING TEST

They use of winding watch, tuning fork, and whisper test are utilized.

D. DENTAL EXAMINATION

This should be done at least once a year to correct any dental defects.

E. MEDICAL EXAMINATION

To check if there is any abnormality, doctors check usually the skin, eyes,

ears, nose and throat.
