Concept of Incremental Linearity and Small Signal Analysis of A Diode

The aim of this experiment was to understand the concept of incremental linearity of a diode and classify signals as small or large through simulation and experimental testing. The experiment involved applying sine, square and triangular wave signals of varying amplitudes to a diode both with and without a DC bias and observing the output to determine the change in voltage that could be considered a small signal for the diode.

Experiment-3

(Concept of Incremental Linearity and Small Signal analysis of a diode).

AIM of the experiment

To understand the concept of incremental linearity of diide and classification of a signal as small signal
by Simulation and to prove it experimentally

MultiSim / Experiment:

1. Connect a F.G, Series resistance (1K), and diode in series.

2. Apply a 5V amplitude Sine wave and observe the output.

3. Now disconnect the F.G and connect a D.C source of 5V.

4. Observe the output.

5. Now superimpose D.C and Sine wave and apply the same.

6. Vary the input signal amplitude while observing the output.

7. Find the ΔV which could be treated as small signal.

8. The same procedure could be repeated for other signals such as square and triangular waves.

9. Using I-V relation of the diode try to find the ERROR theoretically and compare with the value
obtained from the simulation data.

10. Perform the same by experiment and compare the result for sine wave input.
