VII. Questions
1. What are the different sizes of capsules?
- "000" holds about 1000 mg., "00" holds about 735 mg., "0" size holds about 500
mg., #1 holds about 400 mg., #3 about 200 mg. One teaspoon will fill about 7 "0" capsules
and about 5 "00" capsules. The weight depends on the density of the powder you are using.

2. What are the sizes of capsules intended only for humans?

- For human use capsules ranging in size from 000 to 5

3. What are the physical and chemical properties of the ingredients?

Lactose
Physical Property
- LACTOSE is a white hard crystalline powder
Chemical Property
- Lactose is very stable and inert from a chemical point of view. It has, apart from
some special cases, no significant tendency to react with the drug or other components
of a formulation. Some remarks on the chemical properties of lactose are useful however.
Aspirin
Physical Property
- acetylsalicylic acid is a colorless to white crystalline solid with a vinegar odor
due its hydrolysis yielding salicylic and acetic acid.
Chemical Property
- Aetylsalicyl acid is known by its capacity as anti-inflammatory drug.

Sodium Bicarbonate
Physical Property
- a white, crystalline powder that sometimes forms lumps.
Chemical Property
- the chemical properties of not being flammable, being easily decomposed by
acids, starting to decompose in water solution at approximately 20 degrees Celsius
and an increasing alkalinity in solution as it is heated or stirred.al Property
4. What is the use of the pharmaceutic ingredients in the formula?
Lactose
- is widely used as a filler or filler-binder in the manufacture of
pharmaceutical tablets and capsules.

Aspirin
- is used to reduce fever and relieve mild to moderate pain from conditions
such as muscle aches, toothaches, common cold, and headaches.

Sodium Bicarbonate
- used to relieve heartburn, sour stomach, or acid indigestion by
neutralizing excess stomach acid.
VIII. Synonyms
Lactose
- AKA: milk sugar.disaccharide.

- AKA: Acetylsalicylic acid (ASA),Salicylate, 2-acetoxybenzoic acid, acetylsalicylate, O-
acetylsalicylic acid

Sodium bicarbonate
- AKA: Baking Soda
IX. Uses of the Preparation
Aspirin
 commonly used as a pain reliever for minor aches and pains and to reduce fever.
 It is also an anti-inflammatory drug and can be used as a blood thinner.

X. Methods of Preparation
 Trituration Process
 Punching Method
 Sterilization
