COURSE OBJECTIVES

To build upon the fundamental concepts studied in the previous course ‘Signals & Systems’ and to
augment further understanding of concepts and methods of the course of ‘Digital Signal Processing’.
The subject, ‘DSP’ is vital for today’s students of Electrical Engineering and its significance has been
brought out through rigorous discussion of its wide applications. Further to getting a good grasp of
basic theoretical concepts of DSP systems and algorithms, there is good emphasis on the
implementation of DSP algorithms in practice in the accompanying laboratory course. The course
objectives can be elaborated as follows-

1. To study and generate elementary signals/ waveforms and perform arithmetic operations on signals.

2. To calculate and Plot DFT / IDFT of given DT signals.

3. To find & plot frequency response of a given system and verify the properties of an LTI system.

4. To compute & implement FFT of given sequence and identify the reduction of computations.

5. To Implement LP FIR filter for a given sequence and calculate the filter coefficients.

6. To Implement HP FIR filter for a given sequence and plot the response of the same.

7. To Implement and design LP IIR filter for a given sequence.

8. To Implement HP IIR filter for a given sequence.

9. To generate Sinusoidal signal through filtering.

10. To Implement Decimation Process and vary (decrease) the sampling rate.

11. To Implement Interpolation Process and increase the sampling rate.

12. To study sampling rate converters and identify the importance of multi rate sampling.
