Existing water way of the khad/Nallah = 29.00 Mtr.
Average bed level of khad = 101.96 Mtr.
HFL of the khad ( before consruction) = 109.96 Mtr.
Silt factor by taking the value for bed material of khad = 8.00 check
Allowable afflux (assumed "d") = 0.50 Mtr.
Exist gradient = 0.053
Co-efficient of creep (for sand mixed with boulder,
gravel & shingles) = 4.00 check
Specific gravity of concrete = 2.40
H.F.L. of khad (after consructuion) = 110.46 Mtr.
Depth/Height of Structure = 8.50 Mtr.
Hydraulic design :- It has been proposed to provide gravity section of
weir across the khad & it is desined as retaining wall to store the water against it.
a) Lacy's water way "Pw" =4.825 Q
0.50
= 54.03 Mtr.
Since the existing water way of the khad is 29.00 Mtr.which is
less than the Lacy's water way & its losses factor is apprximately 1.00 ,hence
it is proposed to provide water way of minimum length of 29.00 Mtr.or it may be
restricted to the length of existing water way i.e. 29.00 Mtr.
b) Normal scour depth "R" = 1.35 (q^2/f) 1/3
where q = Q/ Exixsing water way = 1.79 Mtr.
Since the structure is completely under the attack of design flood of
khad,its max.scour depth for design purpose be taken as 1.50 R = 2.70 Mtr.
c) Regime velocity "V" = q/R = 1.60 Mtr/sec.
d) Velocity head "ha" = V / 2g =
2
0.13 Mtr.
e) Total energy head at D/S (T.E.L.) = H.F.L.+ ha = 110.09 Mtr.
f) Total energy head at U/S (T.E.L.) = H.F.L.+ afflux = 110.59 Mtr.
g) H.F.L.( after construction of weir) at U/S = f + d = 110.46 Mtr.
h) Depth of Foundation :-
By adopting RANKINE'S FORMULLA,the min.depth of foundation
Df = po/g x (1 - sin f/1 + sinf) 2
Bearing capacity of soil (po) = 180 kN/m3
Where
Df = Min.depth of foundation in mtr. g of earth = 17.00 kN/m3
po = Bearing capacity of soil in kN/m2 f = 30 Deg.
g = Density of soil in kN/m3
f = Angle of repose of soil
Df = 1.18 Mtr.
Say 1.20 Mtr.
Hence total Height of structure i/c foundation depth = 9.70 Mtr.

Design of weir section :- The U/S face of the water is kept vertical & the base
width is given by "B" = (H) x (Sp.gravity of conc.) 0.50
= 15.03 Mtr.
Say 15.05 Mtr.
The crest width is given by "a" = 0.552 x ( H0.50) = 1.72 Mtr.
Say 1.70 Mtr.
Creep length is given by "L" = C H = 38.80 Mtr.
Say 38.80 Mtr.
Length of apron on down stream side is given by,
= 2.208 x C x (H/13) 0.50 = 7.14 Mtr.
Say 7.15 Mtr.
Length of apron on up stream side is given by,
= Creep length - "L" of D/S apron + "B" = 16.60
Say 16.60 Mtr.
The thickness of apron on U/S side may be kept as 0.30 Mtr.over
foundation concrete which may be taken as 0.30 to 0.50 mtr.thick.
The thickness of D/S apron is given by formulla,
= "t" = 4/3 x (H1 - t ) / (Silt factor - 1.00)
(H1 - t) is the residual head.The residual head at D/S end of weir can be
obtained as under,
Creep length covered by water upto this point is = 31.65 Mtr.
(H1-t) =(HFL- B.level + afflux)/ceep length x
(creep length - creep length covered by water.
= 1.57 Mtr.
Say 1.55 Mtr.
"t" = 4/3 x(H1 - t )/(2.40 - 1.00) = 1.48 Mtr.
Say 1.50 Mtr.
Since the thickness of downsream apron is more, the curtain wall of
1.50 mtr.depth on the U/S & D/S of the weir will be provided to reduce
the thickness of the apron.
Total creep length = 39.34 Mtr.
With this arrangement the residual head at D/S end of the weir wall is
(H1 - t) = 0.12 Mtr.
"t" = 4/3 x(H1 - t )/(2.40 - 1.00) = 0.12 Mtr.
Say 0.10 Mtr.
Provide thickness of apron 0.10 Mtr.at D/S side of the weir.
