A Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics Grade 4

This lesson plan aims to teach 4th grade students about classifying angles as right, acute, obtuse, and straight. The lesson includes objectives, subject matter, procedures, and an evaluation. Students will participate in drills, reviews, and group activities to practice identifying different angles using their bodies and examples with clocks. They will then apply what they learned by classifying sample angles and naming examples of each angle type in their assignment. The goal is for students to understand the definitions and measurements of each angle classification through active participation and cooperation.

A Detailed Lesson Plan

in Mathematics
Grade 4

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the pupils should be able to
A. Classify angles as right, acute, obtuse and straight ;
B. Construct right, acute, obtuse and straight angles ; and
C. Display Active participate in group works.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Classifying angles as Right, Acute, Obtuse and Straight
Reference: PELC III-A 2.3 pp. 19 Mathematics for better life By: Carmelita C. Coronel,
Merly M. Pineda and Teresita T. Tungkol, pp. 198-199
Materials: Clock Chart illustration board
Values: Cooperative
Method: Deductive

III. Procedure:
Teacher’s Activity Pupils’ Activity

Routinely Activities
A. Prayer
Everybody stand and let us pray.

Good morning Class! Good morning too, Sir!

Who is absent today? None, Sir!

A.1 Drill
Look at your BODY class.
Can you name some parts of your body?

Yes John? Legs, Sir!

Very Good!

What else? Yes Mark? Hands, Sir!

Very good!

Do you know class that we can form a different

angles through our body parts? Yes, Sir!

We can prove it by having a simple examples.

Do you want to try it class? Yes, Sir!
Everybody stand and follow me.
Then, later on I will call someone in front to tell
what angles is being formed. Is it clear class? Yes, Sir!

The steps go like this.

What kind of angles is this? Yes Ray? Right angle, Sir!

Very good Ray!

How about this angles? Yes Princess? Acute angle, Sir!

Precisely Princess!

How about this angles? Yes Freya? Obtuse angle, Sir!

Very good Frey!

How about this one? Yes Jojo? Straight angle, Sir!

Exactly!

A.2 Review

Yesterday, we discussed about naming different

kinds of angles. Do you still remember class?
I have here an activity entitled “Who am I”.
All you have to do is listen carefully as I read
the questions. Is it clear class? Yes, Sir!

Here is the first question. I measure exactly 90

degrees and I form a square corner.

Yes Darren? Right angle, Sir!

Very Good Darren!

Let us have the second one. I measure less than

90 degrees. Who am I? Yes Gillian? Acute angle, Sir!

Very good Gillian!

How about this one? I am greater than 90

degrees. What am I. Yes Mhiko? Obtuse angle, Sir!

The last one, I formed two right angles.

Who am I? Yes Daniel? Straight angle, Sir!

Very good Daniel!

So they are the different kinds of angles.

A.3 Motivation
Now class, I have prepared groups of angles on
the board.

Look at the first group. What kinds of angles are

these? Any idea?

Yes Sophia? Right angle, Sir!

Very good!

How about these angles? Yes JK?

Very good JK! Acute angle, Sir!

How about the angles on the third group?

Yes Macy? Obtuse angle, Sir!

How about the fourth group of angles?

Yes James? Straight angle, Sir!

Exactly!

B. Developmental Activity
A. Presentation
Our lesson for today is all about classifying
angles as acute, right, obtuse and straight.

B. Discussion
I have here a clock. As you can see, the longer
one represent the minute and the shorter one
represent the hour hand. Did you get it class? Yes, Sir!

Look at the clock. What time does it show?

Yes CJ? 3:00 o’clock, Sir!

Very good CJ! This shows 3 o’clock!

What angles is formed? Yes Jared? Right angle, Sir!

Very good Jared!

Based from the illustration and angles formed.

Would you mind to describe what right angle
is? Yes Joseph? When we say right angle, it measures exactly
90 degree.
Very good Joseph!

When I form the clock at exactly 11:15, what

kind of angle will it form? Yes Nikki? Obtuse angle, Sir!
Very good Nikki!

When we say obtuse angle it measures?

Will you read Carl? When we say obtuse angle it measures greater
than 90 degree but less than 180 degree.
Very good!

What angle is formed if the hand of the clock

placed at 6 o’clock? Yes Angel? Straight angle, Sir!

Very good!

When we say straight angle, what comes into Straight angles are exactly measures 180
your mind? degree.

Very good!

How about if the clock exactly placed at 4:10.

What angle does it formed? Yes Jacob? Acute, Sir!

Very good!

When we say acute angle, will you read the

definition. Yes Roundy? The acute angles are measures less than 90
degree, Sir.
Exactly!

C. Group Activity
Who want to be an artist class? Sir!

Then, let us test your creativity. So, I will divide

the class into four groups. Each group will be
given an illustration board and colored
popsicles. You will make an artwork by
combing different angles. You will be given 10
minutes to do the activity. But before we start
our group activities. What are the things we
must remember? Yes Danny?
Minimize our voice, try to finish the activity as
we can with a correct answer and most
especially, we must cooperate with our group
mates.

Very good! Always remember that if we have

cooperation, we can finish easily our job and we
can make it better.

Let see if you are going to do what you have

said.
D. Generalization

What is the measurement of acute angle class?

Yes King? The measurement of acute angles is less than
90 degrees, Sir.
Very good King!

How about right angle? Yes Rhoda? It is exactly 90 degrees, Sir.

Exactly Rhoda!

How about obtuse angle? Yes Nathan? Sir, it is more than 90 degrees.

Absolutely Nathan!

How about if the angle is exactly 180 degrees?

Yes Chloe? Sir, Straight angle

Very good!

E. Application

Do you want another activity class? Yes, Sir!

If that so I will be given you an envelope with

different colors of art papers. Proceed to your
same groupings, group 1 will do 4 cut outs of
right angles while group 2 will do acute angles.
Group 3 will do 4 cut outs of obtuse angles and
lastly, group 3 will do the straight angles.

Then let us get started Yes, Sir!

IV. Evaluation
Right Acute Obtuse Straight
Direction: Classify each angle below as acute, Angle Angle Angle Angle
right, obtuse and straight by writing name in the
correct column in the table.

1. 6.

2. 7.

3. 8.

4. 9.

5. 10.
V. Assignment

Direction: Refer to the figure to answer the

question below

1. Name 4 acute angles

2. Name 4 right angles
3. Name 4 obtuse angles
4. Name 4 straight angles
