The Sacraments of the Catholic Church
• Seven sacraments are celebrated in the Catholic Church -
Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist, Penance or
Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick, Matrimony and Holy
Orders.
• The seven sacraments belong to three groups - Sacraments
of Initiation, Sacraments of Healing, and Sacraments of
Service.

Sacraments of Healing
1. Oil is used in the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick, as we pray
for God's healing Spirit to bring strength, peace and courage to the
sick or elderly.
2. In the Sacrament of Penance, the priest's outstretched hands bring
God's forgiving Spirit during the prayer of absolution.
