dispensed to us. The visible rites by which the sacraments are
celebrated signify and make present the graces proper to
each sacrament.”

• The seven sacraments belong to three groups - Sacraments
of Initiation, Sacraments of Healing, and Sacraments of
Service.

Sacraments of healing are Penance or Reconciliation, and the


Anointing of the Sick. They give God's forgiveness and strength
and can be received more than once.

In the Sacrament of Penance or Reconciliation, God gives pardon
and peace to the sinner through the words and actions of the
priest. A Catholic needs to be truly sorry and to try not to sin again.

2. Anointing of the Sick


Catholics of any age can receive the Sacrament of
the Anointing of the Sick. With faith, they receive
God's grace to help them accept their suffering and
ill health.

Sacraments of Healing
1. Oil is used in the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick, as we pray
for God's healing Spirit to bring strength, peace and courage to the
sick or elderly.
2. In the Sacrament of Penance, the priest's outstretched hands bring
God's forgiving Spirit during the prayer of absolution.
