Behaviour Based Safety

Behavior-based safety (BBS) is a process that focuses on changing unsafe behaviors into safe behaviors through observation, feedback, and reinforcement. There are many factors that can influence worker behavior, both positively and negatively. A successful BBS program requires involvement from all levels of the organization, clear definitions of safe and at-risk behaviors, and identifying consequences to motivate the adoption of safe behaviors. Measuring and analyzing behaviors, providing feedback, and establishing a strong safety culture are important aspects of implementing an effective BBS program.

BBS Recommendations
• Safety Statistics board should also reflect the percentage of SUSA.
• Safety Motivation / recognition need to be introduced in the plant.
• BBS Observations to be linked to performance objective.
• HSE Index should include the monthly % of Unsafe/atrisk behaviour which is the “root cause” of any incident in the plan
