The document is a lesson plan for an 8th grade mathematics class that focuses on illustrating theoretical probability. The lesson plan outlines the procedures for the class, which includes introducing key terms, reviewing experimental probability, presenting the topic of theoretical probability and the formula to calculate it. Students will then do sample problems calculating theoretical probabilities and an assessment at the end. The teacher will provide additional activities for students who need remediation and reflect on what learning strategies and innovations worked well and areas where improvement is needed.

SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN

ACTIVITY # 4.9

TEACHER: CHARLITO B. BOISER MAJOR SUBJECT: MATHEMATICS SCHOOL: UNION NHS

LEARNING AREA: MATHEMATICS 8 CODE: M8GE-IVi-1 GRADE LEVEL: 8 DURATION: 1-2 HOURS
LEARNING COMPETENCY: Illustrate experimental and QUARTER: 4 TEACHING DATES: March 7-8, 2019
theoretical probability.

1. CONTENT/TOPIC ILLUSTRATING THEORETICAL PROBABILITY

A. Knowledge: Determine the theoretical probability of a simple event.
2. OBJECTIVES B. Skill: Solve problems involving theoretical probability.
C. Attitude: Show eagerness in doing the activities.
D. Values: Display cooperation with others.
3. LEARNING RESOURCES LM in Math 8
A. Introductory Activities: (10 minutes)
 Word recognition:
4. PROCEDURES Flip - turn something over
Meta - data about data
Outcome - result
Probability - something likely to happen
Random - without pattern
Simultaneous - at same time
Theory - rules and techniques
Toss - lightly throw something

 Motivation: Group activity

 Review: Review on is illustrating experimental probability.

 Presentation: Presenting the topic which illustrating theoretical probability.
B. Activities: (10 minutes)
Concept notes:
Theoretical Probability refers to the probability that considers all the
possible outcomes or the sample space of an experiment that are equally likely to
occur. That is, each outcome has the same probability.
𝑛𝑢𝑚𝑏𝑒𝑟 𝑜𝑓 𝑓𝑎𝑣𝑜𝑟𝑎𝑏𝑙𝑒 𝑜𝑢𝑡𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑒𝑠𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑛𝑡
𝑃 (𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑜𝑟𝑖𝑡𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑙 𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑛𝑡) =
𝑡𝑜𝑡𝑎𝑙 𝑛𝑢𝑚𝑏𝑒𝑟 𝑜𝑓 𝑝𝑜𝑠𝑠𝑖𝑏𝑙𝑒 𝑜𝑢𝑡𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑒𝑠

C. Analysis: (10 minutes)

D. Application: (10 minutes)

Board work activity:
1. A card is drawn from a standard deck of cards. What is the probability
of drawing
1
a. a diamond? Ans. 4
1
b. a 7 of hearts? Ans. 13
2. From a standard deck of card, one card is picked. What is the
probability of choosing
3
a. not a diamond? Ans. 4
b. a card less than 6? (assume that ace is the smallest number)
5
Ans.
13

E. Abstraction: (10 minutes)

This lesson is about finding the theoretical event and there is a formula to be
used as given above.

F. Generalization:

In finding the theoretical event,

𝑛𝑢𝑚𝑏𝑒𝑟 𝑜𝑓 𝑓𝑎𝑣𝑜𝑟𝑎𝑏𝑙𝑒 𝑜𝑢𝑡𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑒𝑠𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑛𝑡
𝑃 (𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑜𝑟𝑖𝑡𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑙 𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑛𝑡) =
𝑡𝑜𝑡𝑎𝑙 𝑛𝑢𝑚𝑏𝑒𝑟 𝑜𝑓 𝑝𝑜𝑠𝑠𝑖𝑏𝑙𝑒 𝑜𝑢𝑡𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑒𝑠

G. Assessment: (5 minutes)
Randomly pick one student from the class to answer. Find the theoretical
probability of each situation given.

9
b. total of 13. Ans. 0
2
c. sum of 7 or 11. Ans.
9
d. a sum of 7?
2. A letter is chosen at random from MISSISSIPPI. Find the probability that a
4
a. a letter “S” will be chosen. Ans. 11
7
b. consonant letter will be chosen. Ans. 11
3. Given numbers from 1 to 25. What is the probability of getting
3
a. a number with 5? Ans.
25

7
b. a number greater than 18? Ans.
25
4. Assignment: (3 minutes)

caught up with the lesson
2. REFLECTION D. Number of learners who continue to
S require remediation
E. Which of my learning strategies
worked well? Why did these work?
F. What difficulties did I encounter
which my principal or supervisor can
help me solve?
G. What innovations or localized
materials did I use/discover which I
wish to share with other teachers?
