Introduce the concepts of recruitment and selection from the dual perspectives of the individual and
the organization.
Develop in students the intellectual capacity to understand organizations’ human resource needs and
how to develop a competent labour force.
Facilitate an understanding of the nature of jobs as well as the processes involved in analysing jobs
and achieving an appropriate job-person and person-organization match.
Develop in students the competence required for identifying the most appropriate person for a
particular position.
Develop in students the ability to apply theories of recruitment and selection to the problems
individuals and organizations face when creating a viable employment relationship.

2. Course Intended Learning Outcomes (CILOs)

This course emphasizes student-centred learning. Key activities involve case studies, in-class
exercises and group discussions. Given the interactive nature of this course, attendance and
punctuality are essential components of your participation.
Assessment is comprised of 60% coursework and 40% final examination. Coursework assessments include
three group assignments, participation and a mid-term quiz. The pass mark is 50%.

complete three group assignments as your professional training. You are going to form a group of maximum 5
members.
Conduct a comprehensive job analysis on a job role/function of your interest. Use the steps and methods of job
analysis as discussed in class, and provide an output of your job analysis.
Guidelines:
The assignment paper should be written coherently and precisely (minimum 1000 words excluding
references, tables, diagrams, appendices, etc.).
You should illustrate the steps in job analysis and how you have made use of the various job
analysis methods.
You should come up with an output of your job analysis, either as a job requirements analysis or
a competency model.
A Case Study will be assigned to your team to complete. Your team is required to review the specific
background materials and complete the assignment questions as provided.

You are going to create a new assessment protocol to assess an individual’s personal attribute/quality, which
becomes a critical selection criterion for organizations to sustain their success in the new century. Such an
assessment protocol may become a cutting edge solution to be offered by the consultancy firm.
Below are some personal attributes/qualities which your team can choose as the selection criteria for the

The Assessment Protocol Design Portfolio should be written coherently and precisely (minimum 2000
words), excluding references, tables, diagrams, appendices, etc.
You should provide a clear definition of the selection criterion (i.e., the personal attribute you
focus on) with reference to available research and your own viewpoints. Give an account of its
impact on sustaining organization success in the new century.
You should design a new assessment protocol which has never been used before, and provide:
o Clear justifications for the assessment method(s) to be included in the assessment protocol;
o Detailed contents of the assessment method(s) to be included in the assessment protocol;
o Ways to establish reliability and validity of the assessment protocol;
o Process flow of the assessment protocol; and
o Resources requirement of the assessment protocol (e.g., time, materials, manpower, etc.).
You should solicit feedback on the assessment protocol from both the employer’s and applicant’s
perspectives and illustrate how the assessment protocol will be modified based on the feedback.
