Introduction
Microconcrete is a dry ready mix Cementetious based composition
formulated for use in repairs of areas where the concrete is damaged &
the area is restricted in movement making the placement of conventional
concrete difficult. This is a cementious material, with additives, which
impart controlled expansions characteristics in the plastic state while
minimizing water demand. This is specially designed for repairs to
damaged reinforced concrete elements, particularly where areas is
restricted and where vibration of the placed material is difficult or
impossible.
Composition
Microconcrete is combination of cement, high quality graded fine
aggregate, shrinkage compensating agents and dispersion agents in
powder form marketed as dry powder in packets by construction
chemical companies. This is to be mixed with predetermined amount of
water depending on the consistency sought - trowelable or pourable.
Recommended compostion
2:1 Sand:Cement ratio with the following mix proportions
Cement 556 kg/ m³
Sand—Fine sharp washed. Zone 3 to 4 1,112 kg/ m³
Water (mixing water:cement ratio 0.7, 387 kg/ m³ varies to suit sand
grading)
Shrinkage compensating agents: calcium sulfo-aluminate or calcium
aluminate and calcium oxide.
Dispersion agents: sulfonated naphthalene formaldehyde condensate,
sulfonated melamine formaldehyde condensate, and polymer compounds
like polycarboxylate
Properties
Micro concrete was initially developed to reduce the demand for water
compared to conventional concrete. As a result of its ease of use and
ability to adhere to other materials, the material became the product of
choice to effectively to repair cracked or ageing concrete structures.
Also, no pumping is needed which reduces the requirement of heavy
machinery. Not only does this reduce application costs, but it makes a
big difference when working areas with limited access.
Fast Drying
Conclusion
Contours of the highway that climb sharply and high amounts of
rainfall, result in rapid erosion and other soil issues that cause damage to
the road bed and pavement surfaces, including collapsing, pumping, and
spalling. One of the main obstacles to performing effective repairs is the
requirement that these important highways should not be closed for very
long during the repair. Micro concreting is proven to be effective
solution due to its rapid setting properties and strength requirements
