This lesson plan aims to teach 11th grade students about patterns of development in writing such as comparison/contrast, problem/solution, cause/effect, and persuasion. Students will analyze examples of each pattern, distinguish between them, and critique samples focusing on information selection and organization. Activities include discussing a video on butterfly effects, giving opposite causes and effects, and doing skit demonstrations of different patterns. The goal is for students to understand how information can be organized to achieve different purposes in writing.
