LEARNING OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:
1) explain briefly their feelings and understand the
meaning of poem by matching the interpretation of the
poem

CROSS CURRICULAR ELEMENTS: The Elderly


ACTIVITIES: i. PRE LESSON: 1) The pupils watch a scene of an old woman and a girl
walking side by side for 30 seconds.
2) Then, they will guess their relationship. (Volunteer)
ii. LESSON DEVELOPMENT: Activity 1
1) The pupils are asked to read the poem individually in
silent.
2) Then, in pairs, they will take turn to read the poem
and check their pronunciation. (FA: Peer assessment)
3) After that, they will watch a video from webTV (poem
recitation by Juliana Evans).

Activity 2
1) They sit in group of 4 and will be given a set of
jumbled poem interpretation by stanzas.
2) Each group will represent a stanza- 1/2/3.
3) They match the interpretation to the correct lines of
their stanza.
4) They will refer to the teacher before display their
outcome for gallery walk. FA

Activity 3
1) They will share the timeframe of the events and the
feeling from the stanza. (FA: lollypop stick)
S1 present/childhood
S2 past/dying
S3 present/after death
2) Then, they will give opinion on the statements
individually. (FA: No Hands Up)
-Top target pupils: “How do you feel if you lose
someone you love?”
- Supported target pupils: State a word of feeling to
describe the poem.
iii. POST LESSON: 1) In pairs, they will take turn to answer the question
“What is the best gift that you would give to your
grandmother/ the elder?” (FA: Exit cards)
