The learner organizes a creative and interactive symposium for the community
focusing on being a media and information literate individual.

 Editorializes the roles and functions of media in democratic society.

A. Content: The Evolution of Traditional to New Media.
B. Topic/Lesson: Functions of media
C. Materials: Chalkboard, laptop, mobile phone with QR Code Reader, QR code
D. Reference: Media and Information Literacy Teacher’s Guide pp. 19-23

Preliminaries

Cartoon Analysis: What is the message of this cartoon?

B. Analysis
Process Questions:
a. What symbolisms are used in this cartoon?
b. What is the message of this cartoon?
c. Do you agree with the message? Why or why not?
The teacher will facilitate the discussion about the roles and functions of media in
democratic society
a. Based on the activity, how can you define media? Communication?
b. What are the roles and functions of media?
c. Are these beneficial to our generation today? Specially millennials?
C. Abstraction
a. How media and communication affect today’s generation/era?
b. As student, what intervention you make to at least address the conflict on media and
information? Such as fake news.
c. What is the importance of the different roles and functions of media?

D. Application
Group Activity(10 mins):
Directions: 1. The learners will be grouped according to interest ( Visual/Spatial, Bodily
Kinesthetic, Verbal/Linguistic)
2. Each group will be given 10 minutes to do the activity.
3. The learners will demonstrate their opinion on how Philippine media
performs its roles and functions in the Philippines through the following
activities:
Group 1. Draw on a short bond paper a political cartoon depicting your
opinion about how the Philippine media performs its roles and functions in
the Philippines which is a democratic country. Explain.
Group 2. Create a frozen scene or tableau depicting the kind of press in the
Philippines. Explain.
Group 3. Compose a spoken poetry about the role and function of media in
the Philippines. Explain.
IV. Assessment
Each learner answers the following questions
1. Given the available media that we now have in the world, what are its roles and
functions in a democratic society?
2. In what way does media affect your life (personal, professional, academic, social,
others)?
V. Agreement
