1. Background of the Vavuniya District

1.1. Location

Vavuniya District, located in the northern lowlands, has borders with four other Districts Mullaitivu
District in the north, Anuradhapura District in the south, Mullaitivu, Mannar and Anuradhapura
Districts on the west and Mullaitivu, Trincomalee andAnuradhapura Districts on the east. Agro-
climatically the District comes within the Dry Zone.

1.2 Land and the People

Vavuniya District has a land area of 1966.9 sq km (196,690,96 Ha) – 10% of the land area of the entire
North East Province (NEP). Administratively, the District is divided into four Divisional Secretarial
Divisions, viz, Vavuniya, Vavuniya South, V/Cheddikulam, and Vavuniya North. Vavuniya North
covers 39% of the total land area, Vavuniya District 31% V/Cheddikulam Division 20% and Vavuniya
South Division 10%

Puliyankulam are attending Pre Schools.

         03 Teachers from Palaiyavady and 05 Teachers from Ramar Puliyankulam are teaching there.

         Both Schools are Functioning.
         Save the Children has erected Temporary Pre School at Kunchukulam Village.

         Education activities are going on smoothly.

         Uniform and Education items have been issued.

         Anantharpuliyankulam School is functioning. But damaged buildings have to be repaired.
Also tube well and Lavatory to be repaired.
         Pre schools will have to be opened to up lift the Education of the Children.
OLUMADU
         290 students are attending at Olumadu School. But 2 Nos. class rooms are insufficient. No
quarters for teachers.

         Pre schools are functioning. Rev.Father has supplied chairs and is paying salary for teachers.
MARAELUPPAI
         School Children Male - 75, Female - 66.
         Educational equipments have issued to 110 Students.
         50 Students have been issued Bicycles.
Nutritional food is being issued. Dearth for Drinking Water. Pre schools building will have to be

NEDUNKENY SOUTH
 Sewa Lanka has undertaken to repair 18 Nos. wells. Further they have supplied Water Pumps for 11 persons.
 FASDOO has supplied Chicken for 34 families and Sewing Machines for 4 families as Lively Hood
Assistantes.

NAINAMADU
 Care & Fasdoo have Supplied wire mush poultry farmers.
 Care & Fasdoo have supplied water pumps for 5 families, sprayers, Barbed wire and Vegetable seeds for 15
families on 15.9.2010.

PARANTHAN
 CARITAS has issued Rs.35,000.00 worth of Packages to 57 families in Paranthan and 58 families in
Sinnapoovarasankulam.
 JEN Organization has cleaned is 15 wells. Further 2 ½ feet have been constructed for 29 wells. Out of which
plastering has been done for 20 Nos. wells.

MARAELUPPAI
 ZOA is construing Temporary Shelters for 54 beneficiaries. There have supplied Barbed wire, Knife and pliers
for 120 families.

ANANTHARPULIYANKULAM

 JEN has initiated wells cleaning activities.
