NPSH Calculation

The document provides a formula for calculating the maximum suction lift H in meters for a pump in an open water system. The formula is: H = pb x 10.2 – NPSH – Hf – Hv – Hs Where pb is the barometric pressure in bar, NPSH is the net positive suction head, Hf is the friction loss in the suction pipe, Hv is the vapor pressure which depends on liquid temperature, and Hs is a 0.5 meter safety margin. If H is positive, the maximum suction lift is H meters. If H is negative, an inlet pressure of at least -H meters is required.

Calculation of maximum suction lift for

water in open systems
To avoid cavitation, make sure that there is a minimum
pressure on the suction side of the pump. The maxi-
mum suction lift "H" in metres head can be calculated
as follows:
Hf
H = pb x 10.2 – NPSH – Hf – Hv – Hs

pb = Barometric pressure in bar.
