Rectifiers Aim:: Rms (Rms L

This document describes experiments to study half-wave, full-wave, and bridge rectifier circuits with and without capacitor filters. The experiments involve building each circuit using a transformer, diodes, resistors, and capacitors. Key measurements are made of input and output voltages and frequencies using an oscilloscope and multimeter. Circuit diagrams and tables of expected and observed parameter values are used to analyze and compare the performance of each rectifier configuration.

Rectifiers

Aim:
Study of Half-wave\ Full-wave\Bridge rectifier circuit (without &
with capacitor filter)

Apparatus: Transformer ,12 Vrms ( 12-0-12 Vrms,) 1N 4001 diodes, RL=1kΩ,

capacitors 470μF,50V/ 1000μF,50V, terminal Board, multimeter &
oscilloscope.

Circuit: Half wave rectifier

T1

RL

Theory

Part I.
Use 12 Vrms transformer
1. Set up the circuit after checking each component.
2. Measure the secondary voltage of transformer using multimeter.(lets
say it is V2(P)
3. Display secondary voltage of transformer on channel 1 of oscilloscope
& output voltage on channel 2. Measure & record V2(P) & Vout(P) in the
table.
If Vout(P) is measured using multimeter it will give Vdc = V2(P) /п
4. Measure fin & fout and record in table1.
5. Draw input & output waveforms showing one to one correspondence.

Table 1: Half wave rectifier

Parameter Expected Obtained

Peak input Voltage, V2(P)
Peak Output Voltage, VOut, P
DC Output Voltage,
VDC = V2(P)/п
fin
fout
Part II: Half wave rectifier with capacitor

T1

RL

1.Make the circuit as shown .Check the polarity of capacitor.

2.Display secondary voltage of transformer & output voltage on channel 1 &
2 of the oscilloscope.
Note: Keep input voltage coupling switch on AC. Keep output voltage
coupling switch on DC.
3.Measure input, output voltage and fin and record in table 2.
Select AC coupling on output channel & reduce voltage selector switch to
low values to observe Vripple.
4.Measure, record & draw the ripple voltage(Vripple.)
5.Measure the ripple frequency i.e fout and record in the table.
6.Draw input & output waveforms.

Note: Repeat for different values of C

Table 2: Half wave rectifier with capacitor

Parameter Expected Obtained

Peak input Voltage,
V2(P)
Output Voltage, VOut, =
VDC
fin
fout, ripple frequency
Vrip

Note:
Repeat procedure for Full wave and Bridge rectifier circuits.
