Unit 38 - Evualtion

The student enjoyed creating soundtracks for a WALL-E video project as it allowed creative freedom and provided a distraction from the COVID-19 pandemic. They spent 3 days sourcing and editing sounds, though had some difficulties as their laptop could not run the editing software Premier at first. The student synced sound effects to robot movements, created their own sounds like coins in a can, and altered their voice in Snapchat for the character of Eve. They would make Eve talk more and add more varied sound effects if doing the project again due to limitations from the pandemic.

UNIT 38 – Soundtrack Production

WALL-E Evolution

I had a lot of fun when it came to this unit, I got to be as creative as I wanted with different sounds. I
got to create my own mood/tone for the WALL-E video. I really enjoyed bringing the two characters
to life with the sound effects, I was able to give them their own personalities. It was a good break
away from all of the written coursework and it was a distraction to the real world with the Covid- 19
pandemic going on. This project took me 3 days to source sounds and edit it all together. I did hit a
few bumps on the way with this unit, I couldn’t get premiere to download on my laptop so it took
me longer to get editing. I was able to get my dad to leave up my mac computer and I was then able
to get premiere. It was my first time ever editing on premiere because I was used to final cut on the
computers in college but with the pandemic I had to learn how to use it all by myself. I was able to
look up YouTube videos on how to use the software, YouTube was able to show me how to insert
clips as well as how to cut and trim clips.

I think I did a good job at sourcing sounds and I was able to sync up each sound effect with the
movements of the robots, I was able to create my own sounds as well. I did this by putting some
coins into a empty coke can and shook it creating the sound effect of wall-e pushing out the metal
box. I also created the voice of Eve by going into Snapchat and recorded myself talking and then
changed the audio into the robot voice, I also searched up a robot effect on Snpachat and it was able
to change my voice creating Eve’s character. I also created a log of links to YouTube videos of all the
sound effects I didn’t make.

I think if I could change some things in my video I would make Eve talk more, I would also source
more sound effects because most of the sounds are just repeated. It was difficult for me to record
my own sounds because of the whole pandemic crisis we have to stay home so I had limited
recourses when it came to recording sound. I would also like to change the voice of Wall-e as I think
the two characters sound similar.
